Anyone out there been in the service before? Let's get some veterans around and swap a few sea tales!
In my HMS dielsel-electric submarine period during the 'cold' war - as part of a NATO excercise we ended up playing tag with a Russian vessel, a fairly normal event, where the Russian tried to stop us surfacing. After a few hours of playing 'war games' with the guy we evaded him and surfaced, at which point he then went by us dangerously close at full speed with all the Russian sailors hanging over the side whooping and calling out. Our skipper waited until their bridge came level and gave their skipper the finger. That evening we both entered the same (foreign) harbour and moored on opposite sides and we were wearned that we were to avoid their sailors in the town. We all met up in the biggest bar in the centre of town and had the most amazing p!ss-up and party - everyone returning to their respective ships in each others uniform hats, badges, medals etc.
I got hours of stories but haven't the time for it. But for instance the Major had sent every enlisted man the rank of E4 and below
to the psychiatrist in Germany. They weren't crazy - he was. Not so much crazy as
dumb as the day is long.
