List of Marathons, Half-Marathons and 10km Races in Southeast Asia

For many travelers working their way through the Southeast Asia circuit, the lack of normal obligations and constant availability of cheap beer cause them to forget about regular exercise. By the time they get back home they've picked up a great suntan but a Buddha belly to go along with it.

One of the best ways to motivate yourself to keep in shape while traveling is to sign up for a race or two along the way. Training can be a bit of a pain in some Asian cities, with sidewalks often unfriendly to foot traffic. However, most will have parks or stadiums where you can run. Early-morning jogs through small towns can also be a great way to get a workout and see parts of the local culture that most travelers merely snooze through. Jogs along the beach, though, are perhaps the most enjoyable way to train.

There are a lot of websites out there trying to keep track of the races around Southeast Asia, but most of them are incomplete and sporadically maintained. This page is meant to be a quick resource for people traveling and living in the region so they can get an idea of where and when they can find races.

Races in Southeast Asia

Most races are held at the same time of year each year. In cases where the exact date for the next race is unknown, I've given the month when it will probably be scheduled. Many of the smaller races don't get their race details confirmed until a few months before the race. Larger races, such as the Standard Chartered Marathons, often fill up a few months before the race. However, registration may be open for some smaller races up until the race date.

Note 1: A "?" indicates that the run hasn't yet been officially announced for the next year, but it is still expected to be held.

Note 2: I've added links to the races that have official websites. While the others may not have official sites, they're still legitimate. Try a google search and some information should turn up.
