How to Plan a Staycation Guide Book

Learn the ins and outs of staycations

When's the last time you talked of going to the museum? Houston's Museum of Natural Sciences is one of my favorite places to go in Houston. The museum also has the Cockrell Butterfly Center, the Planetarium, and even a Bug Zoo. I spent a wonderful day at the museum during a Houston staycation years ago. It was relaxing and fun. We pretended we were toursits and walked around the museum, wandered over to Miller Park across the street, unpacked our picnic lunch and took in the sites. We talked about the sculptures, the history and the surroundings.

The big thing we did was have a plan. We planned our days to maximize our exploration and minimize our driving--Houston is such a driving city that we wanted to spend more time at the sites--and spent a week visiting a wide variety of attractions in various parts of the city. We spent a week. We could have easily spent two or three. It was one of the best vacations I've had. I would never have guessed that 10 years later I'd be co-writing two travel books on Houston. You just never know.
