Apoette grew up in San Antonio, Texas and has written creatively always. She completed undergraduate work in Sociology and Political Science at the University of Denver in Denver Colorado and possesses a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas.
After completing her graduate work, she worked as a speechwriter for Judge Carmen Kelsey and U.S. Congressman Charlie Gonzales. In addition to her speechwriting duties, Apoette was commissioned to write “The Authority to Act”, a how to manual for judges in the state of Texas who preside over child abuse and neglect cases.
Apoette is the publisher and senior editor of Nubian Notes, a regional magazine. Nubian Notes was invited by Essence Magazine to participate as part of the press covering the Essence Jazz Festival in New Orleans in 1999. Nubian Notes covered other concerts such as the Jazz Explosion in Little Rock Arkansas and artists such as Bobby Lyle, Gerald Albright, Kyle Turner and jazz violinist Michael Ward. Nubian Notes is maintained as a Special Collection at the John Peace Library on the main campus of the University of Texas, Institute of Texan Culture and as part of the History of Black San Antonio Collection 1873-1996.
Apoette has written articles for various magazines to include GodFirst Connections, which is the in house publication for Salem Bible Church in Atlanta Georgia. She authored the Siloam Nation mentoring Program at Salem and presided over the Poetic Praise ministry, a contingency of poets who gave the benediction at Sunday services.
Recently, she began to compile her works and share life lessons with spoken word audiences in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. She has read and performed her work at a variety of venues to include “Marks-Jazz on the River and The Jazz Poets Society – San Antonio, Jazz at the High Museum”, Irish Bred – Underground Atlanta, The Eclectic Café, Starbucks, BBQ Church and Poetry on the Roof also in Atlanta. She blends poetry and the sultry delivery of song to engage her audience, creating vivid and powerful imagery. Apoette was the first Host of Art on the Mic and The Evolution of the Diverse Mind at the Coffee Loft in Atlanta GA.
Her first novel 7th is completed and she is working on a book of poetry and vintage photographs entitled The Days before Yesterday.
