English was my best and favorite subject. I won a partial scholarship while in high school based on an essay I wrote "Citizens of the World" for the Civitans. ( Boy, I was ahead of my time wasn't I?) I was a National Merit Scholar (before SATs), I earned another scholarship through my scores on those examinations.
I went to two colleges: Montevallo College and Kennesaw State University, where I studied Retail Economics & Psychology. I've always written, but never for money. I edited a national magazine for the American Cockatiel Society for about 4 years, during which I wrote many of the articles myself. I also designed, formatted, cut and paste method, in order to deliver a photo-ready "proof" to the printers. I also edited, wrote for and published a monthly newsletter for a state-wide club.
I just (May, 2012) started with the online writing and have been struggling with the technologies of the website and my computer. I have 4 children, one of whom was stolen by his father at the age of 7 in 1976, I now know where he is, but he doesn't want to get to know me. I also lost a son 3 years ago who had Muscular Dystrophy.
Besides writing, I like reading, investing mine and my husband's retirement funds, gardening, sewing, painting, pottery, regular attendance at church (we have a great one)and visiting with my remaining 2 children and my step-children. All the "grands" my husband and I consider ours, not yours and mine, and together we have 10 of those.
I have been a secretary, Executive Secretary for the President and CEO of an international company, Office Manager, Operations Manager, and Insurance Adjuster. I worked as an adjuster several years, 3 of which was as a Senior Adjuster with a well-regarded national company. I only worked one hurricane, Andrew in Miami, and I never want to do it again.
I'll try to do better on that profile picture as soon as I can master the technology (although maybe I should think about that - I have a friend who told me she likes it.)
