I was a sophomore in college studying English and wondering what I was going to do with my life. I considered teaching, but I quickly dispensed with that idea when I realized that the professors with real experience were my favorites. I knew that if I ever wanted to teach, I needed to gain real experience first. So I decided to go with the professional writing route.
During my college years I wrote for the school newspaper, and eventually became an editor. I had great learning, teaching, and leading experiences in college and I knew that I wanted to somehow take those experiences and apply them to my future career.
During junior year I applied and qualified for an internship with a company called Customer Hook. My employer actually took the time to teach me something new almost every single day and I learned a lot about SEO and online marketing. My internship turned me from English to online writing, SEO, social media, and viral marketing.
Senior year I went back to school knowing that whatever I decided to do I wanted to keep learning and I wanted to teach others. I stuck with my English professional writing major and I minored in web and graphic design.
As I considered what I would do with my life after college I realized that like my grandfather and uncles before me, I had the entrepreneur gene that would not rest until I went out of my comfort zone to do something about it.
During this time I met an amazing man who encouraged me in all of my crazy ideas and dreams and we decided to get married and cheer each other on as we reached for seemingly impossible things like law school and start-up-companies.
I graduated from college with a BA in English and was already working for three different clients doing freelance work but I wanted to do more, I wanted to test out my entrepreneur abilities.
As a personal goal I have always wanted to be able to stay at home to raise and teach my future children. I think family is important and I want to be able to teach them as much as I can. . After considering all of the things I wanted for my life and the things I wanted for my family, I decided to jump out on a limb, quench my entrepreneur thirst, and try doing some freelance work from home.
