Naturezoom means taking a closer look at nature. I like to observe our natural world up close, zoomed in, and in depth. I use my sense of sight, hearing, smell and touch. Binoculars, magnifying glass, telescope and camera are always close at hand.

I grew up climbing trees in Kentucky and playing in the woods in Tennessee. I currently live on a few acres in a rural area of Texas. I have lived in small towns, downtowns, suburbs and "master-planned communities" in large cities like Louisville, Memphis and Houston, but I never feel more at home than when I am surrounded by nature. Something about the dual presence of fragility and fierceness in nature fascinates me. It is familiar and simple, awe-inspiring and complex, and always challenges me to want to learn more.

I interact with nature by observing it, preserving it, documenting it and illustrating it. If I can gain knowledge through my observations, help protect the environment with my actions, contribute to scientific studies by submitting accurate data, and share with others my artistic interpretation through my photography and painting, I hope to encourage others to enjoy and respect our natural environment. If future generations are to know this same wonder, it is up to us today to protect, share and learn all we can, and then leave the natural world as we found it, for others to discover it's mysteries.
