After a long career in insurance in the City of London, I got into crafting a little by accident after my son was born. This led to starting Mad about Cards, a mail order craft supplies company, in 2001 which ran for 10 years. Whilst running Mad about Cards we also set up Printable Heaven (www.printableheaven.com) which specialises in downloadable items for card-making. Most of the printables initially sold on Printable Heaven were designed on a graphics programme by me, something that took quite a long time with my other work too. When my step-father went into a nursing home in 2009, I came across an old book in his house that was full of poster designs. I wanted to frame some of the pictures for our newly created work-space at home but considered it sacrilege to break up the book, so I started to look around the internet for the same pictures that I could print out instead. From there I stumbled headlong into the world of Public Domain! Having studied law when I was working towards Insurance qualifications in my previous career and as part of my degree, I was quick to devour the information I had discovered to enable me to determine what I could rightfully use and what I couldn't! Many public domain images now form part of Printable Heaven's huge card-making range. As I had studied Art and Art History at school, I loved the pictures I was finding. Some were suitable for card-making but so many more were not, however they are suitable for so much more than I could ever use them for. So simply, my mission is to bring out-of-copyright pictures from both well-known and little-heard-of artists and illustrators to the public eye; pictures that can be used and enjoyed for many years to come.
