From 1987 to 1994, Mr. Stephens managed accounting departments within St. Anthony Publishing and Reuters America, advising company leaders on business performance while solving large and costly business problems including revenue leakage, cost reductions, loss from theft and lack of automation. Together, these companies operated in five different industries – publishing, printing, consulting, telecommunications and media. From 1994 to 2010, Mr. Stephens worked in the business information systems industry as a consultant for EdgeMark Systems, Cognos Corporation and Oracle Corporation. By implementing performance management software and sound business practices, he improved the business performance of hundreds of companies. Rather than go to each client company with a predetermined solution, Mr. Stephens gained an understanding of the client’s industry, business practices, goals and vision before recommending and implementing the most appropriate solutions to improve business performance. Solution areas included accounting, budgeting, sales, customer service, field service, business planning, business intelligence, scorecards, dashboards and reporting.
Mr. Stephens, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), He is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). This credential is awarded by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). He is author of the book For Beginning Investors: Understanding Financial Statements. Mr. Stephens serves as Treasurer for the Board of Directors of Living Legends of Alexandria, and serves on three committees for a large community association: The Budget Committee, the Replacement Reserve Committee and the Redevelopment Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from North Carolina State University. Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Mr. Stephens has been a resident of Alexandria, Virginia for the past 27 years.
