Smarter Than The Average Hog

Updated on January 1, 2015

The Pork Virus

There has been so many other things going on in world news that I believe people have not followed what is happening with pigs.

Have you been noticing the price of pork?

There is a deadly virus sweeping through pig herds everywhere. It has killed off millions of pigs in America alone. The virus is called the Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus. It is estimated that it has killed off approximately 10% of America's pigs thus far. In doing so, it is sending the price of pork sky high.

Do you know of anyone who has lost pigs to this virus?

Before you start fearing that this could spread to humans, I must explain that health experts say that it spreading to humans is highly unlikely.

My Brother From A Different Mother

Several years ago, I had a place outside Lebanon, Missouri. The house burned and many of you know I met and wed Maggie (Lastheart). I then moved to Puerto Rico to be with my love.

I still own the property in Missouri. The two car garage did not burn, and one of my best friends, no actually my brother from a different mother, made the garage a house. He lives there and keeps the taxes paid.

Rick has good sense. When he first heard of this virus, he used wisdom. Building a pig pen, he then went searching for a hog. He found a farmer who would sell him a hog. He bought it. He has been watching it close and it seems no virus has touched her. Rick's next goal was to buy a male pig so he could breed her, but lo and behold, he got a bonus when he bought this sow. She was pregnant.

He is going to build more hog pens. He wants to separate male pigs from babies; so on and so forth.

Wisdom is setting in.

While everyone is paying high prices for pork, Rick will just take a fattened one to the butcher and pay him.

I am waiting for Rick to send me a big ham.

Check out these pictures of the babies and then scroll down for some added points.

Being Wise In Coming Days

I have to give a huge commendation to Rick for thinking quickly and buying this sow.

I know he is getting prepared to make a garden too.

My opinion is: more people should be doing similar things. The prices of food have risen drastically. If you prepare yourself, you can save from buying the grocery store items.

The economy is bad, and I predict it will get worse. Don't be left high and dry.

Buy a pig

Buy a cow

Buy some chickens

Plant a garden

Consider the future and prepare yourselves.

I am not trying be negative, just sensible. We need to always be prepared for the worst, and even if things don't go bad, you are still better off than what you were.

May God Bless You and America Too!
