5 Most Beautiful Dog Breeds in the World

Updated on December 16, 2015

Dogs are considered the ancestors of wolves, that's why so many of them seem to resemble wolves. However, wolf-like or not, there are many dog breeds that are very lovable and cute. Although these differ looks-wise, all of them belong to same family — Canidae, a carnivore animal. (However, some people actually train their pet dogs as herbivores.) Dogs have also served as pets for humans for the last 14,000 years, and are commonly known as "man's best friend." They help humans in pulling loads, hunting, herding, and are known for being the most faithful animal to human beings.

This list below lists the five most beautiful dog breeds in this world. This list was finalized after assessing fur, hair, eyes, and some other things. Out of 13 breeds that were nominated, below are the final five. Enjoy!

5. Yorkshire Terrier

This is a terrier-type of dog breed developed in 19th century in the city of Yorkshire, England — hence, its name. Commonly nicknamed Yorkies, they were originally trained to catch rats and for rat baiting. However, later, this became one of the most beautiful dogs as a pet for human beings.

A Yorkie's coat of fur is arguably their main attraction.

  • Weight: This dog is tiny — it can reach a maximum size of up to only 7 pounds (approximately 3.2 kilos.)
  • Lifespan: 12-15 years.

4. Siberian Husky

Siberian Huskies are a very active and energetic working dog breed that originated in Northeastern Siberia. They belong to the spitz genetic family. These dogs are mostly found in the Siberian region, or any other places that have relatively low temperature conditions. The ancestors of the Siberian Husky are from the denser regions of the Siberian arctic.

They are still used as sled dogs in those regions to pull heavy loads. Although first found in Siberia, they later spread to Alaska (the US) and Canada.

They are double-skinned, with a furry surface, and erect triangular ears.

  • Weight: For males, 45-60 pounds. For females, 35-50 pounds.

3. Chow Chow

The Chow Chow name itself already indicates cuteness. This breed is not only incredibly cute, but they also have a really nice and soft fur as well. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world.

This breed originated from Northern China, where it is known as Songshi Quan, which means a "puffy lion dog." It is one of the oldest and most ancient dog breeds in the world. There are various species within this kind differ by color, but the reddish-brown is the cutest. (The other colors are blue, black, and cream.)

  • Height: A maximum of around 20 inches.
  • Weight: For males, 55-70 pounds. For females, 45 to 60 pounds.

2. Bichon Frise

These are a small dog breed of the Bichon type. Its name is derived from the French language, in which Bichon Frise means "a curly lap dog." This breed originated from Spain and Belgium — where, after, it was then taken to France. These are labeled "non-sport" dogs in the US, and also considered toy dogs in the UK.

It is also one of the cutest and most beautiful dogs in the world.

  • Lifespan: 12 to 13 years.
  • Height: Around 30 centimeters.
  • Weight: 5 to 10 kgs — it is one of the most lightweight dog breeds in the world.

1. Pomeranian

Pomeranians are not only most beautiful dog breed in the world, but they also make for the cutest pets. They are also known by their nicknames, Pompom and Pom.

Its country of origin is Germany, more precisely Northeastern Germany. This breed was made popular by royal owner Queen Victoria who owned a small Pom. Popularity then spread around the world after she got one.

There are no other pet dogs that are quite like the Pomeranian.

  • Weight: Nearly 3 kilograms during its adult age.
  • Height: Around 25 centimeters
  • Lifespan: Around 15 years
