Between Two Great Kitties
by Kimberley Vico
Between two great kitties lies a sweet opportunity
to have and embrace their love without any scrutiny.
They possess an inner clock that will never compare to ours,
that wake us in the morning to use their persuasive powers.
When mealtime is imminent they'll be sure to come around,
then knaw at your heels or sing you the sweetest sound.
The efforts in the caring for a cat are rather small,
cats can catch almost anything and retrieve a ball.
It's a delight to have them surface even when you are down,
they appreciate your greatness and they can kiss away your frown.
When Spring is among us and the days longer too,
I know we'll have the pleasure with Mr. & Mrs. Mew.

Gracey in her Secret Garden
We adopted Gracey only 14 years ago from a SPCA volunteer who housed an excess number of kittens for their refuge. It was the smartest thing I could have done after a long break without a friendly furry companion such as my earlier cat, Bobby, of whom I'll never forget. Couldn't help but notice a poster or series of them attached along various telephone poles on the main street close to where we lived. After passing by one of the poles again from a daily errand, a more current update of what kittens were available surfaced.
I, then, called this young lady who took such pride yet graced with modesty on the extent of her care for these abandon kittens. Upon our meet I acquainted myself with these critters, but sat back to see which one might choose me. Sure enough, amongst all the play and adventure around me was this adorable kitten with markings of bugs bunny and the sweetest feline face, golden green eyes and a liquorice ice-cream nose to fit. She came forward to introduce herself with a little glance and the rest is history.

Pepsi - Then came along Pepsi
Pepsi was recently adopted by us in November at approximately 1 year old and has taken the load off Gracey for safeguarding the household while flexing his muscles too! Like Gracey, Pepsi was also adopted from the SPCA. Although there are other sources of which you can choose to adopt a pet e.g., a pet store, the SPCA is more than flexible in providing the certificate to neuter and spade, the necessary shots and health upkeep, and a tattoo for identification purposes at a reasonable price.
As you can see Pepsi is gorgeous, but lacks some manners. He's new to the household with little back ground on his history. Yet being the big kitten that he is with a highly flirtatious mindset it's not too late to train him well. He has a tendency to bombard Gracey or romance her in the roughest way. She clearly doesn't have that kind of interest nor energy so she escapes to her palace when he shows up. It's about a merging or uniting that seems to be the most challenging ever, but I'm confident they/we will overcome it!
