A Love Poem for my Dog

With Love

Dear Pickle

My House is a mess

The nice things I used to have, are now substantially less

Chewed and eaten they are no more

Dirty foot prints adorn the floor

Your noisy, messy, clumsy and annoying

my legs are scratched from all your pawing

You make me shout at least once a day

But any anger soon melts away

The furniture is matted with your hair

The House looks like a hirsute beasts layer

You wake me early each morning

Miles we walk, you are lively, I am yawning

You steal my socks and chew my shoes

It would take more than that to give me blues

You fart and burp and often stink

I must have gotten accustomed to bad smells I think

But your eyes go bright, you wag your tail

To soften my heart it never fails

In Slumber you look so sweet

While your asleep it is safe to eat

Because while you are awake

All my food - you try to take

Your toys, your food your vet bills and more take all my money

Its all worth it, your so funny

What ever the price, I gladly pay

because what I really want to say

is I love you, you smelly hound

Because smiles and laughter are plentiful when your around

I hope you like my little poem of love directed at my beast who slumbers beside me as I type being messy and flatulent and demanding. This is a companion piece to my early writings on Rescue Animals. The rhymes are not perfect and I am no great poet but it is heartfelt and entirely sincere.

Thank you for the comments, it is nice to see so many fellow dog lovers out there. Despite how much hassle they can be.

Thank you for the lovely comments guys. It may sound shallow but I always find I have much more to talk to with other dog owners. Or do they own us?

WE are going through this now with our fifty pound puppy; one minute I want to scream and the next minute he is cuddling in my lap. Great hub, one we can all relate to.

Aawww. . . this is so adorable! I loved this tribute to your lovely Pickle. Our dogs, truly like to challenge our patience many times. Lol! But we love them anyway, no matter what they do. Thanks for this delightful and funny poem. Voted up and shared!

The feeding dish in the photo looks like a halo above her head, so despite her flaws she must be an angel.

How could you not love a face like Pickle's.

      Enjoyed your poem very much.
