A New Ragdoll Kitten’s Welcome Kit

Updated on January 24, 2012
Hello Ragdoll kitty!
Hello Ragdoll kitty!

What You Need To Prepare

Now that you have chosen the Ragdoll kitten that touched your heart, it follows that you’ll soon be bringing your new pet home. Ragdoll cat guides would advise that before you take your kitten away from its first home, you should be ready for all the things that your new kitten will need upon arrival.

The essential welcome kit should have the following items:

  1. Kitten bed
  2. Kitten carrier
  3. Kitten food
  4. Kitten bowls for water and food
  5. Kitten toys
  6. Kitten comb or brush set
  7. Kitten litter box
  8. Kitten scratching post

Your Ragdoll kitten will need a cat carrier for easy transport to your house. This new cat carrier will also be useful when you will be visiting the vet later on. What’s more, you can also choose among a variety of kitty carriers on the market.

The kitten or cat bed is a given. You need a new one for your Ragdoll and preferably, one that he or she can grow into. It should also be inviting to your kitten. You can try getting cat beddings in colors of blue, green, purple or yellow. These are colors most cats can see well while other colors like red, brown or orange would be seen in shades of gray.

What to feed your new Ragdoll kitten would hugely depend on what it was given before. The Ragdoll breeder or the vet may give you recommendations regarding this matter. It would be good to introduce new brand of cat food after your new kitten have settled in comfortably in your household.

And while you’re at it, grab a few food and water cat bowls for your new kitten. There are also innovative designs on this particular product that allows timed or automated replenishment of food and water.

As for the litter box, there are now many new designs that you can choose from. Some have mechanisms for the litter and even timers for when you’re unable to attend to it. Still, some cat owners would prefer doing it the old-fashioned way with the scooping and all.

When it comes to playtime, you should take note that as kittens, they are curious about anything. You might even say that they can get reckless and this means that they are prone to accidents. Because of this, it’s good to have a scratching post or a cat tree where your new Ragdoll kitten can be entertained and be safe from accidents that can happen in your home.

This is where kitty toys like catnip or a cat wand toy should be readily available. You can designate a certain time of the day when you can play with your new kitten with the toys. During this interaction, you are also letting your new kitty get used to you and the new surroundings.

Finally, you should also own a kitten grooming set. You don’t necessarily have to use all the tools that came with the set. You can begin with just combing or brushing your kitten’s fur. Later on, fully grooming your Ragdoll kitten or cat won’t be a problem.

Hey Cheska! Actually, I am not terribly knowledgeable about automatic litter boxes - I would check with your vet and also with the manufacturer of the automatic litter box directly before proceeding. Thanks.

Are automated litter boxes okay for kittens? Or should I wait for a while before introducing an automated one to the kitten?
