Angel Eyes for Dogs
What is Angel Eyes for Dogs?
Angel Eyes for Dogs eliminates tear stains from dogs. The product is actually labeled Angels' Eyes and is produced by a company called "I'm a little teacup". Angel Eyes can also be used to remove tear stains in cats.
Tear stains are brown or redish stains that appear around dog's eyes. This is more prominent in light colored dog breeds such as Bichon Frise, Poodles, Maltese, or Shih-Tzu. I am using Angel Eyes with my Malshi, which is a cross of Maltese and Shih-Tzu. Tear stains are difficult to remove through grooming and will reappear.
Angel Eyes is a dietary supplement that is given to dogs to stop the tear stains from forming in the first place. This is the easiest way to get rid of tear stains and does not require constant grooming.
How Does Angel Eyes for Dogs Work?
Angel Eyes for dogs alters your dog's tears to remove compounds that cause tear stains. There are two varieties of Angel Eyes: the "natural formula" products and the regular formula products. Both come in chicken and beef flavors.
Regular Formula with Tylosin
The regular formula of Angel Eyes uses an active ingredient called Tylosin tartrate, which is an antibiotic.
The natural formulas of Angel Eyes contains the following active ingredients:
- Cranberry Powder: Supports the immune system
- Oregon Grape Root: Helps lubricate mucous membranes
- Marshmallow Root: Natural anti-microbial
Angel Eyes for Dogs (with Natural Ingredients)
Porphyrins are compounds that react with light to produce a reddish brown stain around your dog's eyes. The active ingredients in Angels' Eyes eliminate any Ptyrosporin (Red Yeast) and bacterial infections in your dog's eyes which causes excess tearing and staining. The active ingredients in Angel Eyes bind with Porphyrin pigments and prevents the pigments from binding with the animal’s hair, thus preventing tear stains.
Both the regular and natural formulas of Angel Eyes have the same result- removing tear stains from your dog by treating the source of the tear stains.
How Do You Use Angel Eyes for Dogs?
One of the best things about Angel Eyes is that it is easy to use. Unlike grooming, it takes almost no effort to give Angel Eyes to your dog. For the first few months, you give Angel Eyes to your dog daily. After a few months, you can give Angel Eyes to your dog a few times per week. Angel Eyes comes in either a powder or in soft chews.
Angel Eyes Powder
Give your dog Angel Eyes powder by adding it to a bit of soft dog food or peanut butter. You can also let your dog simply eat the Angel Eyes powder without adding it to food since it comes in beef or chicken flavors. Since letting my dog eat the powder is a bit messy and the dog gets some powder on her snout, I usually put the powder on top of some soft food.
Angel Eyes Soft Chews
The Angel Eyes soft chews have the tear stain eliminator combined with a chewy dog treat. This makes it even easier to give your dog Angel Eyes without measuring powder or mixing it with anything.
Angel Eyes Soft Chews
One thing I like better about the powder form is that it gives you complete control over the dosage. Since my dog is only weighs about 8 pounds, she gets 1/2 of the measuring scoop per day. I suppose you can cut the chews into smaller pieces to give smaller doses as well, but this would not be much more convenient than using the powder. The powder also gives you the option of dissolving the powder with your dog's drinking water as a convenient way to give Angel Eyes to your dog.
How Long Does It Take Angel Eyes to Work?
Angel Eyes does not work instantly- in fact it takes several weeks to work. New fur needs to grow in to replace the stained fur. Angel Eyes does not clean your dog's tear stains- it allows new fur to grow in that is not stained. You will either need to wait for the stained fur to fall out naturally as it is shed, or trim the stained fur after the new unstained fur grows in.
It takes 3 to 5 weeks for Angel Eyes to work. By continuing to use Angel Eyes, you can prevent new tear staining from occurring.
Angel Eyes provides an easy way to prevent tear stains in dogs. Simply giving your dog Angel Eyes is easier than trying to deal with tear stains through grooming. Tear stains are difficult to remove and will keep coming back. Angel Eyes prevents tear stains from developing in the first place.
Drawbacks of Angel Eyes are that it is fairly expensive and takes several weeks to work. Purchasing a bottle of Angel Eyes at a pet shop can cost $40 or more. Since the stained fur needs to grow out and be replaced by new fur, using Angel Eyes to remove tear stains takes several weeks. The good news is that this solution to tear stains should be long-lasting since no more tear stains will develop.
