Aquarium Care Tips

Updated on September 14, 2011

So you have successfully set up your very first aquarium and now you are trying to figure out how to care for it after you have it up and running. I know that for me it was a challenge in caring for my daughters aquarium because for some reason she constantly thought the fish were hungray and I couldn't figure out why we were going through a container of fish food in a day! However, after figuring that out I did determine some great aquarium care tips that help me keep my aquarium in perfect working order. I know that these tips are fairly common and obvious, but like the old saying the most obvious thing is often the most overlooked solution as well. So here are some of the aquarium care tips that I found that worked for me.

The first aquarium care tip that I have is to make sure that you have the proper pH balance for your fish. I know that this requires testing your aquarium, but if you want to have proper care for the aquarium you are going to want to do this. The test kits are fairly reasonable in price and they can make life so much easier when you are trying to have proper aquarium care.

Aquarium Care Tip Number 2

The second aquarium care tip is to try to purchase some of the natural garbage cleaning fish. I know that for me I use Cory Cats. I know that they manage to get most of the poo and old food off of the bottom of the aquarium. So just being able to purchase these fish can help you with your aquarium care by helping get items off of the bottom which is very helpful and can save you some money from having to purchase one of the bottom gravel vacuums. The second type of fish that can help you with your aquarium care is a plecostimus. I know that I have a couple of them in my aquarium and they help take care of the sides of my aquarium and manage to get rid of most of the algae that is on the side of my aquarium.

Now the fish are able to clean up most of the messes as long as they are not a huge mess. If you already have quite a bit of algae or trash build up you might want to purchase one of the scrubbing brushes for the sides and a gravel vaccum for your aquarium to ensure proper care. The good news is that both of these items are not that expensive which makes it really nice.

Aquairum Care Tip Number Three

The third aquarium care tip is to change your aquariums filters on a regular basis. I know that this means you will have to purchase some extra filters, but I also know that by changing them on a regular basis you will reduce how often you are going to encounter algae or dirt problems. You have to remember that while caring for your aquarium you can only let the filter take care of so much because they will get full and that will mean a decrease in how effective they will be. So the third and one of the most obvious aquarium care tips is to change out your filter regularly.

While aquarium care can be difficult to do it is normally the most obvious aquarium care methods that get overlooked. So you can easily try some of these easy methods to take care of your aquarium care by following these tips. Hopefully these aquarium care tips help out.
