Avoid Foods Dangerous For Your Dog

You should be aware that there are plenty of foods you eat that can make your dog sick and in some cases even kill it. And most people who own dogs aren't even aware of what they should and should not give their dog to eat. You should read this article carefully and encourage the rest of your family members and friends to also. So they will also know what not to feed the dog or dogs.

Be sure to always read labels because many of the things you shouldn't be feeding to your dog or dogs can often be found in other products. A lot of people feed canned beef stew to dogs and wonder why the dog gets sick. Its the onions and garlic in the canned beef stew that is making the dog sick. If you had read the label you would have seen that.

Chocolate is one of the things your dog should never be given. I know you'll hear someone say but my dog loves chocolate. But let me warn you your playing Russian roulette with your dogs life. Chocolate contains theobromine (a methylxanthine derivative). It can cause your dog to vomit, have diarrhea, pant excessively, develop an unnatural thirst, develop abnormal heart problems, and your dog could die. So no matter how much your dog begs don't ever give it chocolate. Or anything that contains chocolate. Be sure that your kids know not to give the family dog or dogs chocolate. And while were at it know that this also includes anything that contains caffeine or coffee. You may love a morning cup of coffee but don't offer the dog one.

Alcohol. Don't ever give your dog any products that contain alcohol. This includes liquor, beer, wine or any thing containing alcohol. The main problem with giving your dog alcohol is that it slows down the dogs liver and brain the same as it does to humans. You should know that the smaller your dog is the worst effect the alcohol will have on it. And you should know that it takes far less alcohol to permanently damage a dogs vital organs than it does a human. Even if you give your dog even a little bit of alcohol it can cause your dog to vomit, have seizures, cause depression, and can kill your dog with no warning. So be sure not to ever give your dog alcohol or food containing alcohol.

Never give your dog onions, garlic, or chives or anything containing onions, garlic or chives. Yes I know there are dog foods being marketed as containing garlic to help get rid of your dogs fleas but don't feed it to your dog. Garlic, onions, and chives contain thiosulphate which irritates the gastrointestinal tracts of dogs. Enough in one dose or enough spread over a few days can damage your dogs red blood cells.

Macadamia Nuts in any form are dangerous for your dog. You need to carefully read the label of any cookies you give to your dog because macadamia nuts are sometimes in cookies that you wouldn't even think about them being in. They can cause a dog weakness, vomiting, panting, tremors and may even cause your dog to stumble and fall. They can also kill your dog so don't ever give the dog macadamia nuts in any form.

Grapes or raisins or products containing grapes or raisins can cause kidney failure in your dog. You want to be especially careful about the products containing grapes or raisins because again some products you would never think of contain grapes or grape juice.Be sure to read the labels on any cake or cookies as many do contain grapes, grape juice, or raisins and in some cases all three.

Be sure that your dog never gets given avocado or any products containing avocado. Again avocado can be found in products where you wouldn't think about it being. The substance persin which is contained in avocados can cause diarrhea, and sometimes heart congestion.

Makes sure that your dog is never given yeast dough as this can make your dog very sick. The yeast can continue to rise in the dogs stomach and cause bloating, gas, and constipation and in rare cases even rupture the dogs stomach or intestines.

You should not give your dog raw meats or raw eggs, Bacteria can make your dog very sick the same as it can you. Salmonella and E coli can make your dog sick and possibly kill it the same as it can you. So cook any meat or eggs you give to your dog. Practice food safety with your dog the same way you would for you and your family. You should also know that raw eggs contain a substance called avidin that can cause severe skin and coat problems for your dog.

Milk and dairy products are also not good for your dog. Dairy products can cause diarrhea, gas and bloating in your dog and cheese can cause mild to severe constipation in your dog. You don't want to cause your dog to have digestive upsets.

Xylitol which can be found in baked goods, candy, chewing gum and toothpaste can cause liver failure in your dog and it won't take long for this to happen. Your best bet as hard as it may be is to never give candy or chewing gum of any type to any dog. Chewing gum can also cause constipation in your dog.

As much as your dog may love corn on the cob don't give it to your dog ever because it can and does quite often result in blocked intestines in dogs. In fact it can do this to your dog quicker than you think. The corn gets digested but the cob often gets eaten by the dog and turns sideways in your dogs intestines and the only way to save the dog is expensive surgery.

Bones. I know how much your dog loves bones but your much better off to buy the fake bones that are sold for dogs. Real bones can splinter and cause damage to your dogs stomach and intestines and many dogs have been injured by chicken bones so the best thing you can do is to never give your dog real bones. Especially small bones or chicken bones. If you do it can lead to real troubles for your dog and expensive veterinarian bills for you.

Labels. Its very important to always read labels carefully. You will sometimes find the things we have included above in foods you would never think of. If you start reading food labels carefully it might even make you think about eating it. And always read the labels carefully on your dogs food. You want to be sure never to feed any dog food to your dog that contains onions or garlic. While garlic may help to keep the fleas off your dog it can also make your dog very sick.

Dogs will eat just about anything especially if they are hungry so its up to us their friend and owner to look out for them. I know how hard it can be to not give in some times and let your dog have the treat it is begging for but know that your keeping your dog healthy by not giving in. And in some instances you may be keeping your dog from getting seriously ill and possibly even death.

I hope you find this article about what to feed your dog helpful and if you have suggestions, tips, or questions post them below in the comment section. Thanks for reading my Hub Page On Dangerous Foods You Should Not Feed to Your Dog.

Do Good Research About What You Should And Should Not Feed Your Dog

To most of us our dog is a member of our family and in some cases our best friend. I have two dogs that mean a lot to me. You want to be sure that you never feed your dog anything that is going to harm it.

You should read the label or labels on your dogs food and you should also educate yourself on what each ingredient is. Why would you feed your dog something that you wouldn't eat yourself.

You should ask your vet what dog food you should be feeding to your dog. I can't stress enough how important it is to read labels. If you don't read the label how are you going to know what really is in that particular dog food.

Do you really know what your feeding your dog?

What Are You Feeding Your Dog?

There are many things you should consider when your choosing what food to feed your dog. Some of the main things you should think about is how active your dog is and is your dog still growing or is your dog grown.

If your dog is really active it's going to need to eat more than a dog that lays around the house or yard all day long. And of course a little dog is going to eat a lot less than a really large active dog.

You need to do your own research and find out exactly what kind of dog food you should be feeding your dog. And the best person to ask what should you be feeding to your dog is your dogs veterinarian.

Remember a lot of dogs love chocolate and chocolate bars but you should never feed your dog chocolate because this can be toxic to the dog. And there are many other foods that you should never feed to your dog so be sure to do good research and learn what you should and should not feed to your dog or dogs.

Those who really love their pets, they must do good care of them. Whether it is milk or red meat, they must not feed their dogs without boiling such products. Sweet products are extremely harmful for dog's metabolism as such feedings stimulate reproduction of parasitic bugs over their bodies, putting them in desperateness or itching problems and that may also result in development of further lethal diseases.

Really, a wonderful hub on dog care. Thank you.
