Famous Polar Bear dies suddenly

On March 19th, Big Knut died.

He was only four. Born in captivity his mom rejected him so zoo- keepers at the Berlin Zoo, hand fed him. He became a star and became the first polar bear in thirty years to survive past infancy in captivity in the Berlin Zoo.

Knut sparked enormous interest and became a star of the zoo, drawing in huge crowds who wanted to see the baby bear. The zoo experienced increased traffic unlike anything in over l60 years.

The bear was not sick and it is not know yet why he died. Hundreds of people were at the zoo when he lay down and died.

      It is! No clue as yet as to why the big fellow died.

      The pictures are beautiful. I hope they can determine the cause of death to try and help others avoid it.

      Oh how sad, I do remember reading about his mother rejecting him...Wonder if they did an autopsy. Wonderful pictures, thanks for sharing Mslizzee.

      They are doing an autopsy but I have not heard the results as yet. Curious how he just dropped dead. They say bears in captivity usually live about 20 years.
