Benefits of Playing with Your Pet

Updated on April 16, 2018

Introduction

There are many benefits for your pets to have toys. They are a great way to give your pet that mental stimulation needed to keep them going and also allows you to strengthen your bond with your pet when you take the time to play with them. I wanted to recommend some great toys for pets of different kinds to play with, specifically cats and dogs. First off, however, let’s go into some of the benefits of toys.

Benefit #1

One benefit to toys for your pets is the intellectual stimulation that they receive when playing. Many pets, especially dogs, can become bored very easily. Having toys around for them to play with help to keep them busy. When animals do not have this intellectual stimulation, it can lead to the destruction of items around your house like your couch, shoes, or pretty much anything your animal can get their paws on!

Intellectual Stimulation

Your pet may not be a math whiz, but they do thrive on playing to get that intellectual stimulation.

Benefit #2

Exercise is another major benefit of toys for your pets. Getting enough exercise is very important for your pet to ensure that they are able to remain healthy and live a happy life. Without exercise, this can lead to obesity in your animal, which can then lead to the chances of many different illnesses increasing for your pet, along with additional strain put onto the animal’s joints and internal organs. Using toys to help your pet get the exercise they need can help them to stay both happy and healthy, along with bettering your bond with your pet as well.

Benefit #3

Another benefit created from toys for your pet is that it will help you to increase your bond with your animal. Engaging in playtime with your pet increases the time you spend together. Playing also brings out great joy in animals, and if they are playing with you, they will correlate this joy to being with you and enjoy being around you more often. Not only can toys better the bond between you and your pet, but if you have multiple pets in your household, it can strengthen the bond between them. This is especially true if they are the same kinds of pets (such as multiple dogs or multiple cats). That is not to say that your cat and your rabbit can not bond over toys, this is definitely possible too!

Bonding

The more you play with your pets, the stronger of a bond you will form with them.

Benefit #4

Another benefit to toys is the assistance in dental health for your pet. Poor dental hygiene can affect your pet’s diet, as they will not want to eat often if their teeth pain them to chew. If you have ever tried to brush your pet’s teeth, you know that is not an easy task to do. Having your pet go under surgery to clean their teeth is also a difficult task. Having toys for your pet to chew on is a great way for them to improve their dental health and reduce the need for cleanings to occur at the vet. By having toys, they encourage chewing for your pet. Chewing stimulates saliva, which diminishes plaque and helps to deter it from appearing again.

Dental Health

Your pets may not brush each other's teeth, but playing with toys can help strengthen their dental health.
