3 Reasons You Should Buy Dog Grooming Scissors

If you are a dog owner that prefers to groom your pet at home, you may have some concerns about using dog grooming scissors and if you can use them on your dog safely.

Here are 3 reasons you should buy dog grooming scissors to add to your collection of dog grooming tools.

Many dog owners prefer to use electric clippers, feeling like they can do the job faster and more evenly. But...what you often end up with are all the places that you can not safely reach with the electric clippers.

This is one of the reasons you need a good pair of dog grooming scissors that will actually trim those areas that are hard to reach with electric clippers.

There are a couple of common areas that are hard to reach, your dog's feet and around their ears. grooming scissors are the perfect tool for trimming these smaller areas.

Another good reason to buy dog grooming scissors is for shaping the fur around the dog's head and muzzle, this is especially true in breeds like poodles, Schnauzers and other long-haired dog breeds.

Just always remember to be extra careful when working around your dog's face. Using a good set of blunt tipped scissors can help insure your dogs safety.

You may also need to buy dog grooming scissors for trimming your dog's eyelashes. A small set of blunt-tipped grooming scissors are best suited for this job.

If you have a dog or dogs with long hair, you will want to buy dog grooming scissors to cut out anything that may get matted in their hair between grooming sessions.

This can be a nightmare if you don't catch it quickly.

If you show your dog, grooming scissors can be a very important tool to have when traveling to shows for those unexpected emergencies or stray hairs you may have missed.

  • Make sure your dog is comfortable before you start trimming
  • Have garbage can ready to put trimmings into

Making sure your dog is calm prior to starting will make it easier for you and more comfortable for your pet.

Some dog owners like to use soothing tones or even soothing background music before beginning your grooming session.

It is best to start in the less sensitive areas when using dog grooming scissors, like the sides and back of your dog's body.

Always be careful not to clip your dog's skin when using grooming scissors and try not to tug or pull your dog's hair when trimming.

One area that can be challenging is their belly since it can be a sensitive area and the hair tends to be thinner.

The last area to trim with grooming scissors are the face and ears area since they are the most sensitive area and you pet may get more nervous at this time of the grooming.

Just remember, although you may not realize how important they are, you should buy dog grooming scissors if you plan to groom your pet at home or even if you want to keep them neat between regular grooming sessions.

      Peggy W,

Our dogs do not have the long hair like a Pomeranian but having the grooming scissors can really be so handy. My sister has 2 house cats and she swears by having the grooming scissors to help keep them clean and free of the tangles they seem to get themselves into. Thanks for your sharing your thoughts!

We have my mother's Pomeranian dog professionally groomed but do a lot of brushing in between visits. Also have a shredding type of brush which pulls a lot of the furr out below the top coat so as to avoid matting. I really should get the type of grooming scissors you recommend in this hub for trimming areas. We have some long haired cats where it would be useful also...sometimes around the anal area when things sometimes catch in the fur. Thanks for this useful hub.
