Cat At Play, Piano Cat Plays Online! Lets Start Playing With Nora!

Updated on March 13, 2015

Paws For Thought

A keyboard cat, I hear you say? I bet you are intrigued! I know I was when I met Nora on youtube!

I couldn't pass an opportunity without shouting about this talented piano cat. Yes.. that is right!

This is cat play with a difference!

Nora is a genuine pianist who has, with a little help from her friends, a recording contract!

Her music ability is now set to an orchestra.

Nora is the first cat at play on a piano... what a feline fete!

Now, let me paws for thought, whilst you take a look at the little cutie!

Famous Cat Play

No one wanted poor Nora. She was an outcast and was rescued by her present owner from a Shelter in Cherry Tree, New Jersey. Now look at her! She is famous. Her cat play goes beyond the realms of her peers and her fan base is increasing daily. Not bad for a grey tabby!

The Online Times in London has categorised her music style as between 'Phillip Glass' and 'Free Jazz'. I think it is a bit more minimalised than that. However, I love her 'Joy Division' style of drone as she strips down the music!

Nora is a keyboard cat and does find her paws difficult to negotiate, on occasion, between the ebony and ivory of the piano. However, she manages to negotiate her disability with the help of her chin and cheek. She, somehow, manages to keep her whiskers in check by flexing them back toward her ears.

Introducing the one and only keyboard cat!

The birth of Nora - the keyboard cat

Nora was only 1 when she first explored the piano. It must have been a shock to her adopted owners when musical notes pierced the night's silence. What a surprise everyone in the household must have had when they could hear Nora playing tunes?! Well, they say that cats are more active at night! This was the birth of Nora - the keyboard cat. She now plays daily - a cat addict of the piano kind! How a-mews-ing!

The cat can play on her own, within an orchestra and duetting with her adoptees! What a purrrrfect combination! It was only in 2007 when Nora the piano cat debuted on youtube. Since then the hysteria has grown. She has been the subject of discussion on talk shows and hashad her music demonstrated on television, newspapers and many articles.

Nora the piano cat - the sequel

Nora the piano cat is featured everywhere

Nora tends to preferrrrrr Bach and will quite often perform when her feline friends (or in human speak - students) come to visit.

They will practice with her adopted teacher and Nora will join. This keyboard cat loves to play in the range of D-E-F.

Nora the piano cat has featured in a video on animal behaviour by the National Science Foundation and her performance from her video was shown in 2007 at the National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy.

Nora really is the star attraction and many people are wooed by her. How can you not melt when you see her concentrate hard on hitting that right note. Her ears lie back and her eyes are wide - I think she just wants to get the pitch and rhythm just right!

This keyboard kitty worked in partnership (not that she knew anything about it) with Dean Santomieri, a musician from San Francisco.

By using a loop of Nora's playing, an improvised group created a performance of wonderful music in July 2007.

Betsy Alexandra - her side kick and adoptee extraordinaire - wrote and composed a piece featuring Nora Fur Release: A Prelude for Paws and Hands.

Betsy teaches and also encourages Nora to be her best. We must give her some credit for Nora and thank her for sharing this furry friend with the world.

You will also be able to hear voice on the videos, encouraging and nurturing Nora the piano cat.

Nora's keyboard cat performances have inspired and warmed the hearts of people from all over the world. I wonder what is going on in that mind of hers? Shaz-this is a bluesy, jazzy sort of combo. I dig it, but then I also appreciate the tender licks of the Catcerto.

Ah, well, I just loved it!
