Joint Barkday Party

Friends Jo Dela Cueva and Julie Imperio, both owners of lovely Chiuhuahua dogs, decided to celebrate their dogs' birthdays together. Both dogs are December celebrators, so before their fellow dog lover friends became busy with their own Christmas parties, they decided to party on the first week of December.

For me it's an expensive party. Everything was so well planned you will convince yourself if it is really for dogs. The Birthday theme is Mexican because the owners wanted a festive, colorful birthday party, and what a good coincidence, Chihuahua dog breed really originated from Mexico.

The venue of the Party was somewhere in Tagaytay City. They chose the province because the cool atmosphere is perfect for the comfort of dogs and humans. The house is owned by Jo Dela Cueva. It has a good garage perfect for outdoor parties and the garden is spacious enough for fun activities.

The Party Invitations

Part of the party paraphernalia packages are the invitation cards, gift tags, life size standee and party decoration package of banderitas, pabitin and margarita wine glasses. All of those where specially made to match the theme of the party.

Because they have 2 celebrators, two invitation cards were prepared and distributed to their friends and love ones. The invitation has the dogs' ages; it was honey's 6th birthday while Ginger turned 4 years old.

Birthday Cakes

The customized cake for the party is a perfectly selected Mexican inspired fondant cake with candy cactus and Hats,Jo and Julie also called it their dream cake because they even met with a cake designer or Patisserie, just to make sure that they can really come up with the cake that they had in mind. The cake is as delicious as it looks, and the cupcakes surrounded it made it look more tempting.

Birthday Clothes

The gowns were perfect for the birthday celebrants. Honey wore a Mexican Inspired long gown which her owner got from a friend whose business is customized dog clothes in all occasions.

Ginger wore a lavender with lace short gown, which was designed and created by her human Julie.

Party Food

Jo and Julie coordinated with one caterer that they know and trust when it comes to party food. The Caterer agreed to make two menus; consisting of Human Menu and Pet Menu.

Puree of Cucumber Soup

Rainbow Fish Fillet

Chicken Fillet Divan

Roast Pork

Corn Casserole

Steamed Rice

Desserts: Fruit Salad, Fresh Fruits, Chocolate Fountain

Snack Bar: Tacos and Pasta (Bolognese, Carbonara, Agle Olio)

Assorted Bread, Canopies, Raisin Bread, Carrot Bread

Drinks: Iced Tea, Coffee and Hot Tea

Assorted Mashed Vegetables: Potato, Carrots and Squash

Ground Beef and Ground Pork sauteed in Olive oil

Pink Salmon fried in olive oil

The pet menu was very healthy for them, and dogs just liked it a lot.

Registration and Program

All guests, pets and humans registered first before entering the main party place. Pets will need to mark the guest book using their paws as their signature. In the registration too, party hats for the pets were immediately distributed, and the dogs may wear it in the entire duration of the party, but of course they did not insist it on some pets that dislike anything place on their heads.

Party Games

A Birthday party will never be completed without games, so in a dog party, it is common to see dogs and human participating in the games. The humans regardless of their age became child like because they just enjoy the games and they wanted their dogs to win prizes. The games were the following: Paper Dance, Chi- race, Dog race, Bring me, Pabitin and for the Finale, they will award prizes to dogs in best mexican costume.

The First Best in Costume won a Pet Tower with stuffed toys; 2nd Best won Dog Bed, Pillows, Blanket and Stuff Toys; 3rd Best won Pillow and Blanket; and lots of pretty consolation prizes for the non-winning participants.

Winner of the Best in Mexican Costume

Lashes a Yorkshire Terrier won the Best in Mexican Costume award, judges based it on uniqueness and creativity. Her costume is like a red chile with green leaf on top. Majority of the guest wore Mexican inspired gowns but only Lashes, owned by Connie Perez was the only one to wear something that represents Mexico's well-known food ingredients.

Blowing of Candles

The Traditional blowing of candles was a lot of fun. Dog owners carried their dogs and stood surrounding the Birthday celebrators. Humans sung the birthday song willingly, expressed their wishes and happiness for the celebrators... If you are active in a dog community, this scene is very ordinary, people outside the group still get surprised and amazed to see people carrying their dogs while singing a happy birthday song.

Friends and Guests

All their friends in dog community are invited, most of them are fellow participants in the doggie fashion shows where Honey and Ginger came to know each other. All of them also prepared for the party. Aside from buying gifts for the celebrators, they also bought new dresses for their dogs and for themselves to follow the theme.

Obviously in doggie parties, you invite friends who are dog crazy just like you, Jo and Julie ended up inviting more than 80 humans and 40 dogs.

Facilities that Celebrators and Guests may enjoy

The party souvenirs or give aways were another reasons to enjoy the party. One set of each give aways cost around P400.00 or $10.00 each. Guests were given the following: stuffed toys, blanket, framed caricature of the guests dogs, assorted stuff like dog magnets, figurines, dog memo pads and dog bags.

Human guests and dogs also enjoyed the facilities or the garden of Jo' s house. Toys were placed not just as displays but also as joy rides for the small dogs. It has a crib too where dogs can sleep anytime. What a good place really, even I will enjoy taking photos of myself there...

Featured in a Magazine

Because I was impressed with the party and for the humans' love for their pets, I decided to submit their party story at Animal Scene Magazine, one of the best Pet's magazine in my country.Jo,Julie and their guests immediately bought their copies, as additional souvenir from the memorable party.

I really love this party that I wanted to have a good record of it.... wish there will be a repeat of this..

Mona sorry for late response, of course I will invite you but I will only throw a party like that if I have so much much... Like a month before his birthday I won in a lotto about 50 Million Pesos LOL... The only thing I can afford for Peso is bring him and PM with other relatives in a restaurant near my house, that can also accommodate dogs. Oh your daughter's best friend was so lucky to be with her in her Bali vacation, reminded me of myself when I was a little girl, because I was an only child whenever we go to a movie or visit a place like Manila zoo or fiesta carnival (no malls yet LOL) father always bring one cousin or friend with me.... I also wish I can bring Peso to a beach, so curious of his reaction since he hates taking a bath, I wonder what will he do if he sees me soaking myself to large body of water....

I will buy one tomorrow so I can read your article and your introduction. I can understand your wanting to have a party like that for Peso, because you went through so much with him. Also, since Peso is an askal the coolness factor would be raised higher if you had a party like this for him:). Personally, I'm not much of a party type. For example, rather than pay for my daughter to have a debut, the hubbie and I brought her and her best friend to Bali for a vacation. For the same reason, I would bring my dogs to the beach, because they've never been there:(. But if you throw a party for Peso, please invite me!

Mona do you have a copy of Animal Scene for the month of April? my introduction to that article was a recollection of my first doggy birthday celebration... you know Mona that's my dream birthday party for Peso maybe not that extravagant but at least a party with friends and love ones, maybe we just didn't know but maybe there are dog lovers who celebrated their dogs party that way, I saw one before at national tv, she celebrated her dogs' birthday but instead of gifts she requested her guest to donate to PAWs and CARA. I think her name is Sharon and her dogs are English Bulldog and a Pug. Thanks Mona for visiting again..

I agree with you, it overwhelms...personally, if I had the money I wouldn't have spent it that way. I would just take my dogs to the beach for a swim. But then, it is really interesting to see what people in the Philippines are doing for their dogs. When I was much younger dogs were considered frivolities and weren't given even minimal care. So we have traveled quite a distance:) And of course, you were a major force in bringing the love of askals to the fore.

Mona I love friends who celebrate their dogs' birthdays but this one really overwhelms...My friends told me not to reveal how much they spent because some people might misunderstood. They just love their dogs, and you know Mona I observed three groups of dog owners 1. those who join or frequent participants of dog show 2. Those in agility group mondio ring, etc. 3. and this group that loves to clothes their dogs and compete in the fashion show. but in whatever category I have faith in them when it comes to loving their dogs....
