Who Am I?

Smoky Mama’s kittens are now just over 7 weeks old. Four of the five are large; fat, sassy and rambunctious. The fifth, my sweet little tabby, is smaller; the typical ‘runt’ of the litter. He is very energetic and has a good appetite so, I do not worry…too much. We are keeping a very close watch over him to be sure that he continues to thrive and grow, albeit slowly compared to his siblings, and that his overall well being is always on an upswing.

Personalities are becoming so apparent. Each exhibits his or her own unique and endearing traits. The little tabby is loud; a continual talker. Always inquisitive and in search of treats, this little sweetheart has captured my heart! The fluffier “Seal Point” is a bit slower than his littermates; perhaps due to his size, being the biggest one of the bunch; he ambles about to the beat of his own drum. The shorter haired very pale “Seal Point” tabby-ish kitten is very active and curious. This little one makes me think of the play CATS. The two gray; one solid and the other an almost perfect duplicate of his mother; are both very robust. All day long, these five brothers and sisters play with each other and tease the other cats through the glass which separates them from the ‘general population.’ They've grown very close to the older siblings from Smoky’s former litter, through the door screen which divides their two rooms.

One of the funnier aspects of watching the antics of the kittens is when I enter the room with their morning and evening meals. It is as if alarms have gone off and the order is to rush to the mess hall for vittles with very limited time for eating. One would think these husky fur balls hadn’t eaten in a week! Oh! Spoiled is the word that comes to mind!

We have a mounting concern at the Feline Funny Farm, however….

“What in the world are we going to name these little beasts?”

Keeping in mind that Al and I avoid using the same name twice. .in honor of those who have passed… we are in desperate need of suggestions!!

Now, I know that my friends and readers are not aware and do not know all the different names we’ve used over the years so, I am asking this with a big CAVEAT! We are open to any and all suggestions however, we will probably end up ruling out most of these because, undoubtedly, so much of the offers we hope to see will, for sure, have been the sweet title already bestowed upon one of our former companions.

But, I’d love to have any and all suggestions for names! Surely, we’ll hit on enough to give these babies their own identities.

Hi Gail! I'm so glad to hear that you are going to provide a home for your sister's cat...I can think of nothing more heartbreaking than a kitty being threatened by other animals bigger than herself. You are an angel and a blessing to the soon to be new kitty in your house. I agree, too, that it is always better, if possible, to have several cats so that one is never alone. It WILL work out between the two..I promise you! We've taken in the most onery, obnoxious and hard headed cats when it comes to other cats they won't tolerate...only to wait (it takes a little time, sometimes) and be patient. Before long...kitty companions instead of enemies!! Thank you for caring so much. Kathy

hi nataliejs! Great, great names. I am proud to tell you that we "think alike." We have an Abby, Mollie, Socks, Misty, and Heidi! How 'bout that!?! jasper is Perfect for the next one who needs a home. Thank you so much for the visit and wonderful names. Our kitens are: Shylow, Toby, Jeter (was Trixie until we learned that "she" is a "he."), Pepper and Cloudy. Yes, now, all are neutered (all boys!!!) along with mama and several other rescues.

We save as many as we can but we are not a bona fide "rescue" group as it is only the two of us and we pay for / take care of all the animals on our own. We are pretty much up to our limit and trying, desperately, to move ALL of our rescued animals to N. California...in a week, the first large group is being transported and a very good friend is preparing the cabin to house them...lots of room and outdoor catteries to enjoy.

Thank you Gail and Natalie for your visit and wonderful comments.

Your right, they're a gift in life. My sister's daughter's dogs are attacking her cat. My sister wants to bring the cat where I live. I hope my cat can get used to a new cat. My cat could use another cat so she doesn't have to be along so much. When I work, she is by herself. Another cat would be good company for her. They haven't brought the cat over yet. I would need to keep them separated until they got used to each other. My cat is kind of ornery. I'd take her to the vet and she always gets very ornery.

I can't believe I missed this. I know you named your beauties already. For names, I'm partial to Augustine, or Augustine the Great. I also partial to Knick Knack. Augustine for a male cat, Knick Knack for a female cat. Mmm, yes.

Hi my dear Peggy, Eiddwen and Gail. Having so little time online these days, I wrote the latest and last update w/the names chosen before I saw your three comments. Yes, we do have a smoky (Mama) and Dusty and Peaches..I love Snickers...we'll reserve that for the future...and Tiggers...we have a Tiger..thank you so much for these great names and I'll keep all of those offered by every one because, as everyone knows...there will always be more kitties to come. Bless everyone! Kathy

Snickers might be a good name for a kitten. The snickers candy bar was named after a horse named Snickers if I remember right. Tiggers was the name of a cat my cousin had once years ago.

      Hi Kathy,

The real cats in my family's and now my husband's and my life have been named the following: Willie, Archie, Soloman, Taffy, Tammy, Mama Kitty, Angie, Peaches and Dusty. I see that you have already had a Peaches of your own. Feel free to borrow any of the other names. Are you keeping all of the kittens or finding good homes for some or all of them? They are all adorable little kittens.

Hi Mar! Great suggestions! Hey, I'm back in Kansas again and off line for the most part but, on rare occasion; I run to the library or a friend's home to catch up. So, I shall say thank you a million times and Al and I are going to go over these fabulous names and pick 5...Thank you so much. Now, hopefully; I can get back to some other topics and let Smoky (who, BTW, is at the Vet's RIGHT NOW being spayed....) and her 9 1/2 week old kittens carry on uninterrupted.

      Much love, Kathy

Time sure does fly. My older sister named the one cat Martha. She has a siamese named Chloe. She used to have a cat named Cleopatra. That would be a great name for a cat! She has a dog named Daisey.

hi Gail. Thank you for the name suggestions and telling me about Petie and Martha and Buttercup. We have a Butterball and a long time ago; a sweet calico named Petie (or Pete)..I'm sorry about the 3 kittens but, boy, it's all history now, huh. Funny how time flies. I really appreciate your suggestion ... we haven't had a Martha.

Hi, when I was young, we had a cat named Buttercup. He was a yellow tiger striped cat. He liked popcorn. He was a big cat. We also had a cat named Pete(ie). He was yellow striped, too. There was a female cat named Martha and she had 3 kittens, but they all died from distemper or something like that. It was awful when they died. Petie lived around the time of Martha and the three kittens. Martha and Petie were nice cats; along with the 3 kittens. This was in the latter 1960's.

      Hi,

Your sweet little kitten looks like an Angel to me. I would call her Angel Love. I name my Pom Sweetie Angel, and after he went through the terrible two's as I call it, he has turned into a real Angel.

I love my pets, mine are so much a big part of my life. I love them and spoil them.

      Have a great weekend.

Oh kitty names!! People think that it's easy to do.. It is so hard to name animals because you want to pick something that fits their personality. I once named a cat "Atticus" and a week later changed it because it didn't fit, so he was renamed "Scout" :)

Here are a rambling of some names for you: Jasper, Toby, Elvis, Vegas, Rosie, Pete, Jack.. I love people names for animals :)

We have had a Smoky (yes, of course), Pinky, Boots, Scamp, Misty, Baby, Patches, Peaches, Sandy.

I'm having fun with this..I sure hope everyone else is enjoying it as much as I am....let's keep it going..Kathy

Hi Flora...you have made an excellent point..I am away from them (have been for several weeks, almost) and, to this date, I haven't determined the sex of these babies..so, any name will suffice but, I can see that, if one really 'cries out' for a particular name..it would be difficult to give that one a name because - well - what the heck is he / she? Thank you for making an important observation....I'll be home soon and will be able to separate the boys from the girls!1 LO

I can't remember which are the females and since that you don't point that out here I'll just suggest names in general. I think Maggie or Peggy would be good names for females. Sammy, Bobby, Smithy are good names for males. I like the idea of names ending in "y" or "ie."

All three were given away and the new owners probably re-named them.
