How A Doggy Outfit Resulted in Tennis Lessons

Updated on August 31, 2011

It's funny how things happen sometimes, how one completely unrelated event can lead to another. On a rainy Saturday afternoon, my husband, daughter and I went shopping to Home Goods. We didn't need anything, we were just going to pass the time. Of course, we ended up buying a couple of little things, one of which was a cute little tennis outfit for our Yorkshire Terrier. My daughter spotted it on a shelf, and of course we "had" to buy it because it would look so cute on our doggie. Luckily, our Yorkie is a fashion diva and actually likes getting "dressed", so buying her clothing is not too far fetched.

Well, we went home and of course our daughter, put the cute little tennis outfit on Savannah. All she had to say was, "do you want to get dressed?" and Savannah came running. Needless to say, she looked very cute in her pink and mint green tennis dress; all she needed was a racquet! I took a few pictures of her and sent them to a few relatives and friends. Of course everyone thought she looked adorable and that we were a little crazy for dressing her up.

So, as I sat there looking at her, I realized that no one in my immediate family played tennis! Yet, we had a dog with a tennis outfit! I mention this out loud and after a few minutes, my daughter says, "I'd like to try tennis, can I take lessons?" A year and a half later our daughter is still taking lessons and she absolutely loves playing tennis. Who would have thought, because of one rainy Saturday afternoon and a trip to Home Goods and the purchase of a tiny tennis dress a young girl's interest in a sport would grow?
