The KCI is ISO 9001- 2000 certified Kennel Club of India since 1896. KCI head office is located in Chennai, India that maintains Dog Breed Standard in India. KCI helps dog owners to register their purebred dog. To have a registered breed dog and to present that in dog shows (KCI), you need KCI registration. KCI also register purebred dogs, whose parents do not have papers are registered as purebreds with Unknown Pedigree.

1• The registration certificate carries a pedigree of 5 generations of the puppy and if pup comes from a champion bloodline, certificate will have the name of parents with prefix Ch. for champion.

2• The KCI representative will visit the breeder to ensure breed standards and to assure breed is up to the mark, to get registered by Kennel Club.

3• Certified dogs will get an eligibility pass to participate in national and international dog shows and events, organised by the affiliated kennel club.

Before applying for registration, you need to know the category for which you need to apply and registration process for that category. Also, you must ensure all pre-check for required information and documents, before applying for registration.

1. Registration Categories

The following are the Categories that are identified by the KCI to register a dog.

Category 1: If parents are registered with the Kennel Club of India (KCI).

Category 2: Registration process for imported dogs.

Category 3: If parents are not registered with the Kennel Club of India (KCI).

Category 4: Registering a mix-breed dog.

Category 1: If parents are registered with the Kennel Club of India (KCI).

If parents are KCI registered then registration Process is pretty easy. You need to fill an ownership transfer form along with previous owner of dog, previous owner will sign the confirmation. Once transfer of ownership is done KCI will certify the breed and provide you the pedigree papers. You must be IKG subscriber to apply for transfer of ownership.

Fee for litter registration per puppy within the age of 60 days is INR 562/- and the fee for litter registration per puppy from 61-120 days is INR 843/-.You can pay this amount by demand draft that must be drawn in favor of the "Kennel Club of India", payable at "Chennai".

Category 2: Registration process for imported dogs.

To register an imported dog with KCI, you need to produce a copy of the Airway Bill, which is the proof that the dog has actually landed in India and receipt of custom bill and bill for charges at the airport authority along with the health and medical check-up report issued by the domicile or imported location, to ensure the health of the dog like DNA tested and healthy.

Unless above mentioned documents are not enhanced with the application, the Kennel Club of India you can’t register an imported dog. Only after successful verification and confirmation of relevance of document KCI will issue the certificate. Category 3: If parents are not registered with the Kennel Club of India (KCI).

KCI will register a litter only when both the parents of the pups are KCI registered dogs. For the pups older than 4 months or for which parents don’t have KCI or any other (Certified) kennel club registration, KCI will not consider for registration.
Though for the pups more than age of 4 months, you can get them registered in unknown parentage.
And for the pups which parents doesn’t have KCI or any other (Certified) kennel club registration, you can get registered them in unknown pedigree.

Category 4: Registering a mix-breed dog.

Though many Kennel clubs are accepting registration for cross breed or mix breed dogs in pedigree certification criteria of companion dogs, designer dog or for conditional registration. But KCI doesn’t consider a mixed breed dog for certified in pedigree category, though you can get registered them in unknown pedigree.

3. Registration Procedure

1: You need to fill KCI registration form that you can download from KCI official site www.kennelclubofindia.org or you can get from registered Kennel Clubs.

2: Need 3 color photographs of your dog and its parent registration certificate (If applicable).

2: You have to apply for an Indian Kennel Gazette subscription.The annual subscription fee is INR 300.00/- per year.

3: In case of imported dogs, you need to submit the transport or courier details and if applicable parents registration certification along with pup and parent health certificates.

4: Ownership transfer form along with previous owner of the dog, the previous owner will sign the confirmation (If applicable).

5: Physical attendance of your dog is must at the time of registration or submitting the application.
