Memory of Zack, Friends Forever

Updated on September 14, 2009

Nick and Zack

Nick and Zack
Nick and Zack
Love forever
Love forever
You lookin' at me?
You lookin' at me?
Hey, leave a cat alone!
Hey, leave a cat alone!
I'm on the umbrella and can't get down.
I'm on the umbrella and can't get down.
Ah, I love basking in the sun.
Ah, I love basking in the sun.
I love you.
I love you.
Gonna take a nap.
Gonna take a nap.
Get that camera outa my face.
Get that camera outa my face.
Forever friends.
Forever friends.
Who put this tent on my head?
Who put this tent on my head?
ZZZZZZ.....
ZZZZZZ.....
Why did you wake me from my catnap?
Why did you wake me from my catnap?
Goodnight Zack, you'll be missed.
Goodnight Zack, you'll be missed.

In memory of Zack

It was love at first sight

From the moment I plucked him from the middle of the road

And placed him in my little boys lap

He curled up contentedly, a tiny ball of white and black

That was our Zack

The smile on my sons face warmed my heart

I could see love in his eyes

That was double his size

They were best buddies

They drank milk together

Shared crackers and cheese

Precious moments a heart never frees

From playing with string

To climbing up trees

To soothing the wounds

On Nick’s scraped up knees

A tiny ball of white and black

That was our Zack

Winters watching snow fall

Springs of fresh rain

Summers of adventure

Fall full of leaves

Sleeping side by side

For many a night

Staring out the window

Watching, waiting for that sight

Nick rounding the corner home from school at last

Years past too quickly, they both grew too fast

But it was a long and happy life

For that ball of white and black

That was our Zack

He had to leave us last night

Nick kissed him goodbye and tried to be strong

A tear escaped and rolled down his cheek

For they had been together so long

We will miss him so much

That soft, furry touch

Of his nose on our hand

When he wanted a pat

And the faint little purr

When he laid on his back

It was a love that nothing will sever

They will always remain best friends forever

That ball of white and black

That was our Zack

Rest in peace with our love

Carmen, how beautiful and poignant, what our animals do to us and for us...asking little in return. Thanks for reading about my "Brandy" too, and "thanks" for now following me as well. Looking forward to many more "hubs" to share.

I've had many cats, but the best of the best was a sweet chubby black and white American short hair named Sammy. This hub reminded me of him. When he was only 4 we had to have him put down due to heart disease. :-( It was a huge shock, and I've never been the same. I can't even bring myself to get another cat. Your hub touched me. I'm so sorry for your loss. :-(

What a gorgeous cat. I'm so sorry he's gone. I completely understand - I've had pets all my life and a lot have come and gone but I remember and love each one of them like it was just yesterday. A beautiful poem, Carmen.

Thanks for your kind words Eileen. The memories do make you laugh, especially when Zack couldn't figure out how to get down from the umbrella.

That's a cool poem and some really great pictures. I grew up with cats running around. My current beast traveled the country with me when I spent five years out on the road. She's an invaluable security measure and it was good knowing that if we ran low on food I could send her out to hunt down a deer or something.

Thanks Jaspal, I didn't stop to think of who might read it beyond myself actually. It was more a way to release my grief than anything. I'm honoured to have you as my fan.

Hey, I've read this one earlier ... Didn't leave a comment, probably because your sharing of Zack's story in such a poetic manner touched me deeply. And now, the second time, I again feel tongue tied, even as my heart wells with emotion for you and your son.

I think this is a great tribute to Zack .... and your family, maybe even Nick's kids in the future, are going to be seeing these pics and rereading this poetry often.

Thanks tonymac, they certainly do get a strangle hold on one's heart. My Zena has me wrapped around her little paw. I don't think its right that apartments, town homes, whatever can dictate to disallow pets, they bring so much to people's lives. Thanks for the visit.

Great poem about a great cat! They do somehow get deep into one's heart, don't they? I love cats, though we can't have pets where we live, unfortunately.

      Love and peace

Yes, we had a few Groucho suggestions. Another was Stache, but in the end Nick got to choose and Zack was the black and white power ranger. Thanks for your sentiments and sorry about Simon. Hugs to you for loving him.

I loved your poem of love and remembrance...reminded me so much of my Simon, whom I lost last year...These little guys really get inside your heart and leave a lasting memory of their presence we were fortunate to share...I think if I had found Zack I would have named him Groucho, after Groucho Marx...what a great looking cat !...Thanks for this, Larry

Thanks for the sentiment. Because he was my son's cat made it more difficult, it felt like I was losing part of him in a strange way. Nick hasn't been gone from home for long.
