Appeal To Cat Owners

There are many cat lovers in the world (yippee!). Why not cater to them when the next basket bingo, charity auction, or “Sunshine Club” fundraising request comes your way. Here is how to make a raffle basket which cat owners cannot resist.

Or, just use these ideas for gifts.

The "Basket" Can Be Cat-Centric

We are accustomed to seeing a raffle basket contained in, well, a basket.

However, since this is a cat lover's basket, the truly daring basket assembler could use a new, unused plastic litter pan.

Keeping the original product sticker and perhaps a bow on top will certainly assure bidders that this is indeed a new receptacle!

Food Items For A Cat-Lover's Raffle Basket

Every cat family has a brand of choice for the wet and/or dry foods for its darlings. Sometimes the food may be prescribed by the veterinarian. Therefore, I would not include "staple" food for the basket. However, this does not preclude one from including TREATS! Little packs of chicken or beef laced with catnip can be loads of fun for the feline and its family. Also, include a bag of dried catnip leaves for the owner to sprinkle where desired.

Scratching Places

When God decided that one of his creatures needed to be an expert scratcher, He made CATS. They certainly do an excellent job, don't they? And not always in places where we humans would like. Therefore, we try to re-direct the scratching.

I have placed cardboard scratch pad "refills" around my home without the plastic containers for them. My cats enthusiastically use them. Of course, a teeny sprinkling of catnip makes them extremely attractive.

Here are some scratching place items which could easily fill the cat lover's raffle basket: a cardboard scratch pad refill or a piece of fabric (such as jute and sisal) designed for a workout from a feline.

The cardboard pads in circular and rectangular shapes and also in curves.

Great Combination Wide Scratch Pad With Catnip

I really like the width on this pad because more than one of my pet cats can attack it when I sprinkle fresh catnip. It's light weight makes it easy to move around the house.

Cats Like To Play

Cat Toys

Cat persons know what these are. Little stuffed mouses, feathers on wands, and tiny balls are great toys. Popular cat toys usually can keep moving, thus resembling live prey. That appeals to the feline hunting instinct. A laser light is also loads of fun for the human and animal family members, alike.

Clothing And Accessories

Here we get into a potential sticky wicket, because cats, as a rule, are not overly concerned with pleasing their humans the way dogs are.

Furthermore, cats generally feel that their own luxurious coat of fur is quite adequate, thank you very much.

However, the collar with or without a bell is worn by some cats. So, why not throw one into the cat basket? If the basket giving is close to a holiday, you might include a costume collar.

For Mom And Dad

Of course, the proud adult parents will enjoy picture frames in which to display photos of their precious pals. These can be traditional or magnetic for the refrigerator or digital. Cat lover sorts of bumper stickers and car magnets could also be included in the basket.

Books About Cats

If your raffle basket still needs some rounding out, how about a book about cats? It could be information-filled non-fiction or a tender narrative about a real (or imaginary) cat.

Appreciation On Its Way

I hope this helps the next time you are called upon to create a gift basket or a basket to be auctioned for fundraising.

The cat lovers will love this!

Happy Gifting!
