My Favorite Things
Soprano is a 10-year-old Maine Coon Cat that my husband and I got at the Animal Humane Society in Coon Rapids, MN. We looked at a lot of cats at a lot of shelters before we decided on him. Ultimately, it was my husband that chose him. That was really weird , because my husband isn't really a cat guy.
Soprano would like me to tell all of you what his favorite things are. He can't write the words himself, because paws just don't work well for that, but I will try to put his feelings into words as best as I can.
This Is The Person I Own
Cats Own People You Know, Not The Other Way Around
My person's name is Shari. Her and her husband Rick, rescued me from a comfortable, but kind of lonely animal shelter in Coon Rapids, MN. My old person got a divorce and they just dumped me here. I had to win Rick over. I don't think he really likes cats. I had to try and win over this pitch Black Persian in the kennel next to mine. I don't know how many places they went before they found me, but I think it was a lot!
About My Name
My name at the the shelter was Chico, but I guess my people didn't like that name. They didn't think it fit me, especially after I meowed at Rick the first time. He'd never heard a meow like mine before, and he really liked the show "The Sopranos" at the time, so they changed my name to Soprano. I like it better than my old name too.
What I Like To Do
I'm not a real cuddly, hold me type of cat. I will tolerate being held for short periods, but I get tired of it quickly. I prefer to lay on a lap.
I really like to mess with the other animals in the house. Dogs, I think they're called. I have to go after them a few times before they even notice me. The one called "Starrchyld" likes to chase me, but my people usually make her stop. Sometimes, I wish they would just let us be. No matter how hard I try with "Halford", he just blows me off.
I don't have a lot of toys to play with because the dogs would eat anything I would have. I just play with Ben's cars and stuff. They're just as fun as any old cat toy. My favorite game though, is to attack my people when they walk by me. It's great fun! They don't like it sometimes, but I don't really care. I am a cat after all.
When Rick's alarm goes off in the morning, I like to make sure he's up by going into the bedroom and walking around and meowing. He always gives me treats before he walks out the door, so I have to make sure he's awake to give them to me.
Shari has to feed me on top of a table in the basement. If she doesn't the other dogs will go downstairs and eat my food. They're a couple of pigs.
When Shari does the dishes, at the point when she's wiping silverware, I insist that she gives me some attention. The rest of the time, I just lay on top of the cupboards and watch her. She gives me treats when the dogs get walked too. If she didn't, they would eat them.
I think my most favorite thing is to lay on Shari's lap when she's watching TV in the evening, and get my brushing. I let her know I've had enough by wagging my tail. She leaves me alone then, and lets me take a nap.
My other people used to let me go outside, but my new people don't. I try and try to tell them I need to go outside, it works for the dogs after all, but they just won't let me. I guess that can be a good thing, because I used to be all itchy before when I was allowed to go outside. I think the shelter had to give me a special bath for it. I sure felt better after they did.
For the most part, I have a pretty good life. I think it might be more fun with my new people than it was with my old people.
I Want This
I have a small one, but because I'm such a big, heavy, cat, it's broken. "Ben" used to climb on it too, so he helped break it. This one looks like it's a lot more fun than the one I have.
Soprano really would like to have this, but we can't afford it right now. He also weighs about 15 pounds, so we need a sturdy one like this.
My Person's Favorite Thing About Me
I think my person just thinks I'm a really cool cat. She would probably like it if I was more cuddly, but I have great colors, and I get along with the dogs just fine. Even though, I could hurt "Ben" I won't because they might send me back to that old shelter. I got dumped there once, I don't want to go back.

This Is A Great Toy, But The Dogs Would Eat It
Soprano would like to have more toys, but with the two dogs, it doesn't make any sense to buy them. They would just eat them.
If I didn't have to worry about the dogs eating this, I would love this toy! I'd play with it all the time!
How To Take Care Of Me
Shari is a Veterinary Technician, so she pretty much knows how to take care of me, and what makes me such a special cat, but here's a book to help the rest of you figure me out.
This looks like a great book for an owner that hasn't had a Maine Coon Cat, or doesn't even know for sure what one is.
This Is To Show You How Fun I Am
I'm a cat, I like to have fun. These videos will show you just how much fun I actually am.
We're Done Here
I think Shari pretty much covered everything about me. I'm really an interesting pet to have, and I will live for about 15 years or so if you take good care of me, and love me. I might seem indifferent to you a lot of the time, but I'm really not. I like my people, and I like it when my people love me.
I would have really liked to write this page myself, but let Shari know what you think of the job she did. Thank you!
