Our pets can be the most important buddy in our lives. We can spend more money on them, than we ever did with the kids (serious, it's not hard).

One area we really let our pets down is safety within the vehicle. We have laws that state we humans must wear seatbelts, our children are also required to be securely buckled into a car seat or booster seat. Yet laws are just beginning to be introduced in some locations and monitored by law enforcement agencies, regarding strapping your pet in all over the world.

If you were to suddenly apply your brakes due to the car stopping suddenly in front of you, your pet could easily lose their seat. If they were flung forward in the car, they could potentially injure themselves falling off the seat, or hitting the back of your car seat in front of them.

Were you to have an impact causing your pet to be thrown forward even more forcibly, there is a huge possibility they may suffer severe injuries, even death. Other worse case scenarios include being thrown through to the front dash/ windscreen area, to the floor with other items landing on top of them, there have even been instances where the pets have been on the owner's laps and were crushed between the steering wheel and their owners' bodies. That is the reality of car accidents.

The other dangerous fact to consider is that your beloved dog, becomes a projectile that can severely injure you or your passengers, in an accident. Consider your pet's weight hurtling at top speed, into the back of your head, another deadly result in many car accidents.

To offer your dog the safest travelling options within your vehicle, consider purchasing a quality dog seat with harness and seat belt attachments. There are numerous options available on the market with many degrees of quality and safety levels, below are three of the best dog safety carsseats available to keep your dog safe while travelling in your vehicle.

Why Use a Pet Safety Seat

  • Restricts dog moving around the car cabin.
  • Raises dog so they can see out the window, without leaning head too far out.
  • Keeps dog secure when car breaks hard and suddenly.
  • Stops the dog hitting human an causing injury during an accident.
  • Use the vehicles seat belt technology of tightening when brakes heavily applied.
  • Encourages the dog to be sitting down and therefore safer in an impact or rough driving.
  • Aids in reducing travel sickness.
  • Assists with anxiety in dog (and owner).

Snoozer Lookout Pet Car Seat

I found this quality pet car seat is one of the safest available on the market and one of my favourites. Anchored down by the seat belt wrapping not only around the car seat, but over it too, threading through its specially designed seat belt slot. Additionally, there is a clip on the inside where your dogs harness and car lead can be clipped on. Both of these safety features will keep your pet firmly in its seat, when it's needed most. The Snoozer Lookout Pet Car Seat comes in a huge array of colors and it's comfy, simulated lambs wool inner, will keep the most pampered pooch cozy on his or her next trip with you.

Differences Between Car Booster Seats and Car Seats

Car safety seats and booster seats are two very different products.

Car safety seats utilize the car's seat-belt and braking system. In these varieties of seats, the seat belt will loop through and around the seat, locking it more securely into place. You are also provided with anchor points for the dog's harness looping around the seat belt also.

However, booster seats are not secured to the vehicle with the seat belt. Often there will be straps that clip together over the back of the car seat. A booster seats main job is to raise your dog up higher, so they can see out the window. This in itself can be a safety issue if the windows are down or partially down. Some variations of booster seats also have a large amounts of negative space between the booster seat and the actual car seat, creating a weak point in the design.

Harnesses anchor points are a separate element and not included in many booster seats.

Snoozer Half & Full Bench Lookout Perch Car Seat

If your pet is a bit too portly or long legged for other dog car safety seats, another option available to you is the Snoozer half and full bench Lookout Perch Car Seat. Believed to reduce travel sickness in your dog, the booster seat raises your travel companion so they can enjoy the view out the window. The removable cover is washable, so unwanted pet odors easily eliminated, it also protects the backs and seats of your vehicle.

Made from comfortable foam, your pooch is sure to have a beautiful trip cruising down the highway with the wind in their fur. Safety straps are included to clip your beloved pet to the car seat belt of the car. This ingenious pet booster seat will give your larger mate, somewhere to sit with a higher level of safety, although a dog harness is all recommended for your pet's safety.

The half-sized bench seat, will safely accommodate pets up to 35lbs, whilst the full-sized bench seat is designed for dogs up to 70lbs. Ideal option for larger dogs travelling in vehicles as well as multiple pets.

Please note this booster seat is not strapped in using the seat belt safety features, it does provide connections that can be clipped to your pet and the seat belt, but the seat itself does not act as a safety device, only an elevation product.

Quality and Safety are Paramount in Car Booster and Dog Safety Seats

Whether you're travelling across the countryside with your cohort from one side to the other, or just on a quick trip down the road to the local shop, keeping your beloved pet safe is a high priority.

Protecting both your dog, as well as yourself and your passengers from potential injury or fatality should not be an exercise governed by price, but rather should be directed by quality and safety features. Just as you would enclose and contain your pet while outsider. Read Best Dog Exercise and Containment Dog Playpens for Keeping Your Pet Safe. You should also contain your pet for everyone's safety while they are travelling.

I have recommended these quality dog booster seats as many cheaper models rely on flimsy, canvas straps and weak, clip together clasps. Physically incapable of restraining a pet in an impact or heavy breaking incident. It makes sense to tap into the vehicle's belt locking, safety designs that are of a high enough quality and resistance, they're already used to restrain us humans. Considering we love our best friend just as much, they deserve just the same level of safety.

Happy and safe travels to you and your companion!
