Why You Should Buy an Insulated Dog Door

Updated on February 10, 2018

All weather, insulated, energy efficient dog doors

Dog doors are a perfect solution for dog owners who are frequently away from home or who want to give their pets the freedom of going in and out wnenever they please, without the hassle of always being there to open the door for them. A pet door however, is essentially an opening cut into an exterior door or wall of your house, usually protected by a flimsy flap of rubber or similar material. The larger your dog, the larger the opening and this may cause a significant loss of energy in your home.

After living with this problem for almost two years, freezing in winter every time the dog went in or out, I decided to do a serious market research for the best insulated, airtight, all weather dog door available. Read on if you are interested in the best energy efficient dog doors on the market.

Best Insulated Dog Door - Ideal Ruff Weather Extra Large Pet Door

An excellent energy-efficient all-weather dog door with an inner telescoping frame which can be either door mounted or wall mounted with the special wall kit.

It is made of molded plastic material and features two soft clear plastic flaps with a 3 inch air pocket between them (9 inches if you use the wall tunnel kit), which makes it extremely energy efficient. The clear flaps keep shut with magnets and even in the most extreme weather conditions they do a very good job of keeping the wind and cold outside in winter and the heat in summer.

The Ideal Ruff weather series is available in Small, Medium, Extra Large and Super Large, to accommodate dogs up to 120 pounds.

With an average of 4,5 stars on all customer reviews, the Ruff weather pet door is probably the top rated energy efficient dog door on the market. High quality, quite affordable in relation to similar products, with a limited lifetime warranty and excellent customer service, this dog door is a best buy option>.

Great ideas. I love my doggie door! Nice lens!

We just installed an all weather door on our back nice, no cold air coming in during winter. We used to have a sliding glass doggie door.......I always felt the air coming in when I walked by and on windy days, the flaps would flap open. Convenient, but not energy efficient. It took a few tries for our old dog to get used to the thickness of the all-weather doggie door, but now he uses it throughout the day and night.

I have a dog door but had to close it as, with 6 dogs, there was too much mud flying around my house. I recommend them for those with fewer dogs though.

I could sure use one of these for my dogs, that would save me from having to let them out, in,out ,in and that's in the first 5 minutes of the day.
