At first this struck me as a silly question, but then the answers made me remember that I live in a very isolated bit of the world, and the lifestyle I was raised with has largely died out. Simple answer -- yes, I could kill an animal for food, as I've been doing it most of my life. My sister and I were brought along on hunts from four years old on, in order to instill in us the importance of gun safety -- we got to see very clearly what they do. By...I think I was seven, I started helping with slaughtering our own animals when it was time to put them in the freezer. At nine I hunted small game (rabbits and squirrels), and by twelve I was hunting deer and antelope (pronghorn). If there is ever a food shortage, or even an event which requires we leave civilization altogether and head for the mountains, we're well-prepared in this and many other skills.
