I have shared my life with 12 canines over the course of my lifetime, and all were rescued, either from the ASPCA, a private shelter, or from a person overwhelmed with their care, who needed to find them a new home. Every single one of them turned into wonderful, loving, smart companions, even those who had serious issues (biting, general craziness, diabetes, blindness, cancer, extreme old age, epilepsy, like I said, issues!)
I have nothing against honest, well-intentioned breeders, but there are millions of unwanted pets out there, all in immediate and dire need of a second chance. My advice would be to adopt, and look at the special needs critters first. They will understand what you have done for them and reward you with love.
