It's probably a good option at this point. Some dogs regress and become more fearful as they get older, and she may feel safer and happier in a crate. This way, you won't come home to a disaster, and understandably, you would feel angry with her.
Are you familiar with Kongs? They are a tough toy that can be stuffed with kibble/peanut butter or similar things. Consider fixing up a Kong -- or a similar toy -- and putting that in with your dog when you need to crate her. Be sure the toy has openings on both ends. If it is open on just one end, it may cause a suction with the dog's tongue, and the tongue can swell and suffocate the dog.
One note about using something like peanut butter that the dog needs to lick, licking tends to be very calming for dogs.
You could also try DAP - dog appeasing pheromone, as that calms some dogs also.
