I'm not a small dog person, so that rules out a few breeds right there. I don't want a noisy (hounds?), hyper (fox terriers?) dog, who's always "on the go". I'm not into breeds that require elaborate grooming, or have a fragile look. I don't want a dog that keeps its distance (shiba inu?); instead, I prefer a dog that seeks my company without being overbearing.
I like dark markings, powerful build, short hair, and breeds that learn quickly and are versatile enough to participate in a variety of sports (anything from carting, to obedience, agility to rally-o).
Rottweilers suit my lifestyle and demands perfectly. They love their people (I guess you can say that for all dogs?), but they are also elegant and powerful at the same time. They can be a little bit more difficult to read, as they have a quiet, reserved nature, but it appeals to me, and I pride myself on the ability to understand dogs' body language. Rotties are just as happy lying by my feet, as they are happy to be trotting next to me on a walk. I like that they are so affectionate, despite their reputation and muscular look, so, as you can see, I like the whole package: size, character and beauty.
Now, the reality is, there is no dog that I wouldn't give lots of TLC if it came to live in my house, but my heart is with the Rottweilers.
