   Why do animals ruin so many relationships?
   
   Animals although our loving companions have for some strange reason put a hindrance on peoples relationships and I want to know why! As a long time animal lover and a person who grew up breeding pitbulls I'd like to hear your input on this very bizarre occurrence.

   There's a few answers to that one. I personally have been a breeder of various critters for years and as such I never really thought I'd find someone to "put up with" my hobby. I did eventually but it was someone else who was used to having animals in the plural sense. My point is people who are not used to pets, or not used to a somewhat larger amount of pets, are going to complain they smell, that they ruin the house, that they cost a lot, and they're right. These are things that can only be tolerated if you are really into those animals. If you're not it's only going to cause strife. Its like living with a dear friend your partner hates. I've also seen a lot of insecure women get jealous of their guy's pets (as retarded as that sounds) because they feel the pet is receiving more love and attention than they are. Sometimes they're right (at which point there's really no hope of having a normal human relationship for the over-the-top pet lover) but usually this is an issue that's constructed in their own minds. Most people don't live on farms anymore and I notice increasingly that people are opting not to raise their children with some dirty old dog or cat. The appreciation you'd get from that experience usually remains void in adulthood.

      Excellent response and I agree with you completely, I also understand and empathize when it comes to the smell, the hair, the messes, but when it comes to the jealousy aspect I just cannot comprehend why someone would be jealous of an animal.

   I think that if something such as a pet is the reason given to to end a relationship then that relationship was already doomed and the pet was an easy excuse. I love animals myself, my wife not so much but she loves my dog because she loves me and knows how much he means to me.

      I couldn't agree with you more! I've never been much of a cat person but when it comes to people that I love and their cats I've always accepted them and grown to love them despite my distaste.

   There are many reasons. Just one is that some people value their animal relationships more than their human relationships. It's also often the case that the animal lover allows the animal to do unpleasant things to the loved one or their belongings. It may be the case that they may spend money excessively on the animal or miss out on quality time with their human loved ones.
   
   There are hoarders and there are even animal hoarders. There are many people obsessed with animals who call themselves breeders and rescuers. Fairly often, these people are found to not provide the best care to the animals or to themselves. This also strains relationships with humans.
