I personally don't believe it because every I lie down on the couch my little Chuggers wants to be next or on me. In an article published in Psychology Today, psychology professor and neuropsychological researcher Stanley Coren argues that most dogs are actually stressed out by hugs. "Behaviorists believe that depriving a dog of that course of action by immobilizing him with a hug can increase his stress level and, if the dog’s anxiety becomes significantly intense, he may bite."

Hey I never thought of that - as to why little kids get bit in the face. One little girl tried to hug tightly my little Chuggers- I glad I intervened!
