In Greek mythology the owl was a predominant player. The goddess Athena (the goddess of wisdom) always had an owl on her arm according to what is known from folklore, and of course most early tribes associated owls with wisdom. For Merlin (the famed magician) the owl was a sign of darkness and wonder. Many western folktails tell of the owl signifying impending death by high pitched screeching. I find this superstition is obviously for someone who gives a "hoot" Have a good day.
