Bird Quotes and Sentiments That Make Your Heart Sing

Updated on August 19, 2014

Feel Free as a Bird to Enjoy These Bird Quotes ...

Our feathered friends charm us with both sight and sound, and it is like a breath of spring to read sentiments and musings about them. I began searching for bird quotes when making a special card for my brother who is a bird enthusiast, and I enjoyed them so much I just kept going. Now I use them in scrapbooking and all sorts of art projects.

Whatever the occasion, or no occasion at all, I encourage you to take time to savor a few of these words and pass them on!

Bird Wisdom ...

"It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds" Aesop

"A wise old owl sat on an oak; The more he saw the less he spoke; The less he spoke the more he heard; Why aren't we like that wise old bird?" - Edward Hersey Richards

"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." - Henry Van Dyke

"There is nothing in which the birds differ more from man than the way in which they can build and yet leave a landscape as it was before." - Robert Lynd

"That little bird has chosen his shelter. Above it are the stars and the deep heaven of worlds. Yet he is rocking himself to sleep without caring for tomorrow's lodging, calmly clinging to his little twig, and leaving God to think for him." - Martin Luther

Bird Appreciation ...

"I once had a sparrow alight upon my shoulder for a moment, while I was hoeing in a village garden, and I felt that I was more distinguished by that circumstance that I should have been by any epaulet I could have worn." - Henry David Thoreau

"I value my garden more for being full of blackbirds than of cherries, and very frankly give them fruit for their songs." - Joseph Addison

"I realized that If I had to choose, I would rather have birds than airplanes." - Charles Lindbergh

Bird Sayings ...

Fun Little Blurbs to Use in Cards & Scrapbooking ...

A bird's-eye view

A little bird told me

Naked as a jay bird

Early bird

A feather in your cap

You're so tweet

Feather your nest

That's for the birds

Bird Blessings ...

"He will cover you with his feathers,

and under his wings you will find refuge;

his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." Psalm 91:4

"I sing because I'm happy,

I sing because I'm free,

For His eye is on the sparrow,

And I know He watches me."

Gospel hymn, Civilla D. Martin & Charles H. Gabrie

Birdsongs ...

"Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn't people feel as free to delight in whatever sunlight remains to them?" - Rose Kennedy

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."

Maya Angelou

"I want to sing like the birds sing not worrying about who hears or what they think." - Rumi

When You Can't Open the Window ...

Bird Joy ! ...

"Like the hummingbird sipping nectar from every flower, I fly joyfully through my days, seeing beauty in everything."

~Amethyst Wyldfyre

"I'm youth, I'm joy, I'm a little bird that has broken out of the egg." - Sir James M. Barrie

"The first sparrow of spring! The year beginning with younger hope than ever!... What at such a time are histories, chronologies, traditions, and all written revelations? The brooks sing carols and glees to the spring." - Henry David Thoreau

How to Personalize Someone Else's Words ...

We can't all put our feelings into words like Shakespeare or Browning. I think reading quotes give us those "ah ha" moments of "Yes, that's just what I want to say." When a quote captures your message, use it and add a personal touch. I love to do this by making my own cards. If you're limited by time or crafting ability, buy a pretty box of blank cards and print a quote typed on your computer, cut it out and insert it inside the card with double-sided tape. Going to that little bit of extra effort means so much and I think you'll find it saves you time and money, as opposed to making a trip to the store each time you need a birthday card.

Bird Proverbs ...

The early bird catches the worm.

On swallow does not make a summer.

A peacock has fair feathers but fowl feet.

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched.
