The Black and White Cat

Updated on June 26, 2013

Sometimes known as Tuxedo Cats, Black and White Cats are very Distinct

Black and white cats are amazing animals.

I not only like the beauty of them, I also admire their intelligence.

Black and white cats have a distinct personality and they also have many interesting character traits that you probably don't know about.

I have collected some photos of black and white cats but I have also used some other color kitties and made them black and white, including my own. They wanted to share in the fun.

There are several interesting facts in this website about the black and white tuxedo cat.

Please enjoy your journey and don't forget to leave a "paw's-up" below!

Black and White works with Cats Also

I love black and white and mixed with my love for cats, it is a purr-fect combination.

Black and white are not really colors although some may still believe so. In the color spectrum, black is the combination of all colors while white is the absence of color.

When you buy a car in a hot climate, you want to look for the lightest colors because they reflect the sun while dark and especially black, absorbs the sun and heat. Due to this, the black and white cat may be hot and cold at the same time.

I learned a lot of interesting information about black and white cats for this website that I did not know before. I wanted to give this information to others and what better way than a mix of cat photos, trivia and some other ways for you to have fun at the same time.

The Name for a Group of Cats?

When I was growing up, everyone used to call a group of cats a "litter."

While this term can apply to very young cats, cat groups are actually known by other distinct names,

Other than saying "groups of cats" or just cats, a cat grouping is referred to as a "clowder," a "clutter" or a "garing."

Famous Black and White Cats

It is said that William Shakespeare, Sir Isaac Newton and Beethoven all owned a black and white tuxedo cat.

Maybe we should say their cats owned them?

I never knew that color was an indication of a cat's personality and intelligence. Fun lens idea! I wonder what other colored cats are like in contrast.

I miss my beloved tuxedo cat, Billabong. He was my $300 "free kitten" and lived to the old age of almost 16. Having had many different cats over the years, the tuxedo is by far my favorite. You have done a remarkable lens to capture them at their finest.

@jennabeezer: That's very interesting...My cat, on this lens, is actually an orange tabby cat & I made the image black & white. he is a pretty smart little guy but I have a friend who has a black & white who is very smart.

I definitely agree that the black and white cat is resourceful. My cat, Sugar, used to ask for a generous helping of cheese every day - freshly shredded and served on a paper plate. He would place a paw in the plate to keep it from moving while he ate - while our orange kitty just licked that plate back and forth across the kitchen floor! Nothing against orange kitties, of course, but it was cute to watch!

What a very cool tribute that even the fine tastes of black and white cats would approve of. I was particularly surprised to learn about the difference between ferals in the country or in the city....must be some reason for that. Great pictures along the way as well and love the one you took of your little buddy. Now you have me thinking of cats over the years and do remember black and white kittens not only being so darned cute but so inquisitive and on the go....congratulations on Setting a Great Example dear Giant of joy time on your feature! :)

The photo you took of your cat is amazing. I enjoyed seeing all of these photos of the Black and White Cat. Right now we don't have a cat but have always had one in previous years.

I showed this to Olivia Felini, who is a dark brown tiger (house cat), and she sniffed something about all cats looking the same when it's dark.

I wonder if she envies the cat that's in the Space Program.
