Boxer Gifts for the Dog Lover
I Love my Boxer!
Yup, I own a Boxer, or a Boxer owns me. Her name is Leah and she's a brindle American Boxer. I've always had a dog in my life, from poodles when I was a child, to rescue dogs with unknown pedigrees. So you could say I'm a dog lover, and I have all kinds of dog toys laying around my house.
Leah is the first purebred dog I've ever purchased, something I though I'd never do. But when I met her as a six week old puppy I fell in love. Boxers are know for their loving temperament and fun personalities. From almost day one she walked on a leash, doesn't jump on people and rarely barks.
Since Leah is not a show dog, we decided not to clip her ears. So her ears hang low, unless she's excited then they perk up.
Fun Boxer Gifts for the Dog Lover - Unique and Fun Dog Gifts
Since all my kids are grown and out of the house, my dogs have become my kids. I bake cookies (treats) for my dogs, they have their own toy basket, and even a dresser of clothes. No, they don't wear them all the time, in fact very seldom, but I just can't resist. I don't have grandchildren to buy for, yet.
Dog cookie cutters are a hit with dog owners. Many pet owners bake their own dog treats, it's cheaper and nice to know the ingredients are fresh and healthy.
Seems a bit like a cannibal for a dog to eat it's own likeness, but I don't think they really notice. You can also make sugar cookies for your obedience or kennel club meeting.
These dog bone cookie cutters are appealing to any dog owner since they are not dog breed specific. This set of dog bone cookie cutters come in different sizes for large and small treat options.
I absolutely love this dog hoodie sweatshirt from Zack & Zoey. The fleece lining of the sweat shirt if super soft and it's my favorite go to dog sweater. Boxers have very little hair and in the winter Leah really loves to go outside in the snow, but sometimes it's just too cold. My Jack Russell actually gets excited when I get his doggy hoodie out because he knows it's walk time.
Did you Know?
Boxers originated in Germany to hunt bison, stag and wild boar and were one of the first dog breeds to be selected for police training. Now Boxers are beloved pets who are affectionate, friendly, and playful clowns.
According to the American Kennel Club Boxers are the 7th most popular breed in 2012, love to be with people, are natural guardians and watch dogs. Because of their personalities they served as couriers during wartime.
Boxers have two approved colors, fawn and brindle. I'm partial to brindle myself and my Leah is a brindle.
Boxer Calendar - Favorite Dog Breed Calendar
In my house we have three calendars in various rooms. My husband gets a hunting deer calendar, I get my dog calendar and I can pretty much guarantee one of my kids will give us a calendar for Christmas. They really do make perfect gifts. Everyone needs a calendar, so why not get one tailored for your interests.
Dog calendars make perfect gifts for dog lovers, if a friend or family member loves dogs, and have a Boxer pick up a Boxer calendar, it is sure to be a hit.
All About Boxer Care and Training - Books about Boxer Dogs
Before adding a Boxer as a member of your family it's a good idea to read up on the breed to know what to expect, know health problems and how to best care and train your Boxer.
So, what did I learn? Boxers are prone to farting. Got it. Check out how to feed Leah to prevent smelly gas. Boxers snore. Ok, I can handle that, my husband snores, can't be louder than him. Boxers like to bounce. I also have a rescue Jack Russell, no one bounces more than Brody. Boxers are also prone to eye and lip problems, ok I'll keep make sure to train Leah to let me examine her mouth, teeth, and lips.
Did you just get a Boxer as a puppy, or thinking about getting a Boxer, this book will tell you everything you need to know about Boxers and some things you may not want to know. For example did you know Boxers are prone to farting? They can clear a room!
Boxers are the best breed of dog. Yeah, I might be a bit biased, but this book is definitely written by a Boxer lover and is written tongue in cheek on why Boxers are the Best.
My Boxer as a Puppy - Who can resist a Boxer puppy?
I never thought I would buy a puppy from a breeder, all my previous dogs had come from shelters, rescues, and were mutts we found throughout the course of life. But when I saw these Boxer puppies I just fell in love. I picked this little female up and she nuzzled my neck and snuffled in my ear and I was hooked.
This is the phone photo I sent to my husband to convince him we needed this puppy. I already had a Jack Russell, and we had just moved to a new house with a big fenced yard, and only been married for a few months. My hubby couldn't say no. As it turned out we didn't get a puppy for us, we got a puppy for our other dog. The two are best of friends. Ok, well it's a love hate, jealousy relationship. Each one wants what the other has, and they really are inseparable.
Home Decorations for People with Boxers - A house is not a home without a dog...
Or in my case a house is not a home without a Boxer. I think we will always have Boxers in our house now. She is such a character and just wiggles and is so glad to see us when we get home.
This sign should hang in our house, right above the dog food bowls.
Sandicast dog figures have always been finely detailed and realistic in appearance. When I was a kid I collected all kinds of little dog statues.
Boxers Love to Play - Dogs Don't Need Toys, But They Love Them
My Boxer Leah loves to play, run, and bounce. She love to play fetch, tug of war and carries around her stuffed dog toys like babies. She didn't chew on shoes when she was a puppy, but now that she's a year and a half old and into her teenage years we don't dare leave our shoes on the living room floor.
She is very active and intelligent and requires mental stimulation to exercise her brain and keep her from getting bored. Her companion, a Jack Russell named Brody is getting older and he doesn't like to play all the time.
I love buying dog toys, especially for Leah. Brody chews everything up and there isn't an undestructible squeaker toy he can't destroy in less than 15 minutes. Since I can't keep the toys away from Brody I have to find toys both will love.
Best Dog Toys on the Planet - My favorite Dog Toys
As I said, my Jack Russell chews up everything, if it's a squeaky dog toy it WILL be destroyed. Stuffed animals the same way. But, Brody has learned that if I give a plush toy to Leah it's hers, and he doesn't mess with it, he respects her toys. So Leah can have plush toys and she loves them, carries them around everywhere.
When she's excited, anxious, or nervous she gets one of her "babies" and carries it around the house.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of dog toys in the pet market. What is good for the Great Dane is not appropriate for the Pug and vice versa. Pet stores recognize some dogs are aggressive chewers, some want to play fetch all day, and some are perfectly content to cuddle with squeaky plush toys.
In another life I worked in the pet industry and I attended several pet trade shows in the United States in Europe. The choices are overwhelming. There is everything from organic hemp toys to interactive intelligent smart toys designed to keep your dog from getting bored and having anxiety separation. I think this is what I need for Leah. She's just too smart to be left alone in the house.
My Boxer loves plush dog toys, she's a female so it may be her natural mothering instinct coming through, but she really babies them.
Leah has a basket full of dog toys and by the end of the day she has taken each one out and loved on them. Seriously it's like having a toddler in the house, I need to teach her to put them back when she's done with them.
Kong makes a tough durable line of dog toys, I trust their brand and tend to stay away from the generic dog toys. So when I see Kong as the brand I trust their dog toys will last and be safe.
This dog toy is the first one I ever bought for my Jack Russell over eight years ago. It's still my favorite and Brody's. Food or treats can be placed in the ends of the Busy Buddy and as the toy is tossed around the pieces come out.
This interactive dog toy was one way I restricted Brody's food intact and taught him to eat more slowly. He used to bolt his food and sometimes choked. This is one tough dog toy, he hasn't chewed it apart, shredded, or destroy it and if you're looking for the perfect dog toy this is the one.
