The bull terrier is a strong, agile dog originally bred in England for pit fighting.

Its smooth short coat is either pure white or brindle with white markings. The bull terrier stands about 20 inches (50 cm) tall at the shoulder and weighs close to 50 pounds (22 kg). It has a large, heavy head with broad pointed jaws, small eyes, and small erect ears. Its muscular neck is arched, and its short tail tapers to a fine point.

The bull terrier, which was bred from the bulldog and the now extinct white English terrier, was originally developed as a fierce muscular fighter. It is now kept as a pet.
