Clouded Leopard

Updated on July 2, 2015

Big Cats

The Clouded Leopard is just one of the big cats that is an endangered species. All of the big cats still in the wild are endangered. The numbers of wildcats are devastatingly low and there are just too many poachers killing them for profit.

If there was no market for the fur, the paws and other parts of these gorgeous creatures there would be no reason for the poachers to continue to kill them. Sadly not enough people realize or even care about this. My lens is about just one of these beautiful animals, the Clouded Leopard.

I love all animals but this particular cat is a real beauty. A fine fur coat of black and tan a unique pattern that give it the name Clouded Leopard. These animals are so majestic, it is sad to see the fate that is upon them. They are not quite extinct but at one time it was thought to be that way. I hate to think of a world where the only wild animals are in zoos. A song by the group ELP ( Emerson Lake and Palmer ) makes me think of this future we are forming. The song is Karn Evil 9. Some of the words are "Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends

We're so glad you could attend

Come inside! Come inside!

There behind a glass is a real blade of grass

be careful as you pass."

I can't get the thought of a blade of grass being so rare.

National Geographic has this animals status as vulnerable

Body, 2 to 3 ft (.6 to .9 m); Tail, up to 3 ft (.9 m)

Weighs up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg)

Extinction was their fate

I am a lover of all animals. I was shocked to hear that these beautiful cats were considered extinct at one point. but luck was on their side. Being a very isolated lone animal they were not seen for a long time. Then in 1988 four were sighted. They will more than likely end up extinct and this is a sad thing to happen with species after species. They are not going extinct because of the "circle of nature" but because man. The cats are hunted and their habitat is being taken.

Book you must read

If you are against the way animals are poached for some of the stupidest reasons now you can find out what is being done about it.

One of My Favorites

I love the markings on this beautiful cat and was unaware of the fact that they were thought to be extinct at one time. It would be so sad if such a magnificent creature were to just no longer be on this earth. I for one am a contributer to WWF and give what I can to this great organization. I wish I could talk about these big cats from experience but my only experience is what I have seen on television or read. Adopt a Clouded Leopard - World Wildlife Fund

You may not be able to adopt an actual Clouded Leopard but you can help this beautiful species. World Wildlife does amazing things to help all the animals in danger while telling the public about the problems specific to each species. This is one more way you can easily donate to a specific species and have a memory of that animal for your home.
