Little C.C. On the Road Again

Why We Chose a Doggy Car Seat

This is our little 9-year-old Maltese, Mademoiselle Coco Chanel, (we call her C.C.) who travels with us a lot. She likes to be where she can see out the windows, but that requires her to stand on her back feet with her "hands" on the car door. We like for her to be safe and secure while the car is moving, and we found the perfect remedy for this situation. A doggy car seat. Before we bought her car seat, she wanted to be in my lap, and was constantly walking across me to look out the window and then to sit on a pillow between the front seats. Even though she was harnessed, and her leash was fasted around an arm rest, she still wandered, and wanted to get into the driver's lap which, of course, is dangerous for everyone.

The brown leather handle seen in the lower right corner of the above photo is not part of the car seat. It is the handle on a piece of luggage.

Keeping Our Dog Safe

C.C.'s Outward Hound car seat secures to our car's seats, either front or rear, and has a short strap with a clasp that clips to the dog's collar or harness. We always put her harness on her when traveling because, if the strap were to be clipped to her collar, and if she were ever thrown out of the seat, she would be dangling by her neck. By using the harness, she is much safer, even if she were ever to be thrown from her seat.

Multiple Pockets / Easy to Clean Car Seat for Dogs

The seat has a pocket on each side, and a zippered pocket across the front. We use them for poop bags, paper towels, etc., and we put her treats in the zippered pocket. This seat is actually a bit more like a vinyl basket, in that it has high sides all the way around. When C.C. is not curled up asleep in her "basket" she often rests her chin on one of the sides. When we first leave on a trip, she whines a bit, but as soon as she realizes that she is not going to the vet or groomer, she is happy.

The seat is easy to clean -- just wash it off, and dry with a clean cloth or towel. Or, wipe with anti-bacterial wipes. If using anti-bacterial wipes, be sure to let it dry naturally, then wipe with a clean wet cloth, then wipe it dry. This will remove any chemical residue that the dog might lick. This little car seat is one of the best investments we have made on behalf of our dog. She is far happier when traveling, and so are we.

Outward Hound Walk N Roll Pet Stroller Fold Up Stroller For Small Dogs and Cats, with Locking Brakes and Shade Shelter

C.C.has this stroller in pink, We bought it when she injured her leg, and had to be off her feet for 6 weeks. It's great on trips, especially when sightseeing, After a lot of walking, she gets tired and wants to be carried. At a little over 10 lbs., I can carry her for only a short time.

What a beautiful dog you have, ours is a Patterdale Terrier who we love to bits. I have not seen a dog seat like this before, we shall have to look into getting some sort of restraint for him.

Usually he sits in one of the back passenger seats with one of us. He is not keen on motor travel and these days we tend to walk most places we want to go. But for the odd ride out something like this is worth looking into. Thanks for the information :D

@GrammieOlivia: HI, grammieo! Thanks for visiting, and for the squidlike. I think this seat would work just as well for cats. If you decide to try it, let me know how he likes it. Good luck, I know cats have minds of their own. When we lived in Winston-Salem, NC, property tax was required not only on vehicles, but on dogs and horses. I asked, "Why on dogs, but not cats?" My husband replied, "Because you don't own a cat. The cat owns you."

We have a cat, so the only time he comes with us is for visits to the vet. Lately they have not been going too well. So when we try to get him in the car, even in his carrier, he is panting up a blue streak! Our other pets are fish, they don't like the car! But I love this dog car seat!
