Small dogs are adorable and very popular among women. When you consider that there are dogs that can weigh as high as 100 pounds; you got to be very gentle with these small dogs that weigh less than 25 pounds. This begs the question; how low can the weight of dog go?

Sometime it’s hard to imagine that a dog can be as small as the size of cat and still makes a great pet. In fact most manly dogs breed rarely weigh less than 10 pounds. These dogs that weigh under 25 pounds are the ideal pets for women since they can even be carried in a hand bag.

For me a dog weighing less than 20 pounds would be too small. I am a fun of giant dog breeds. How about you?

Although majority of the small dog breeds weighs on average 25 to 30 pounds; a dog that is less than 25 pounds also has a height of a maximum of 20 inches.

This is may be a dog breed that is cross of tow small breeds dogs. This missed breeds dogs may end up weighing less than 25 pounds. In my experience I have not come across a dog weighing less than 3 pounds.

Why People prefer dogs that weight under 25 pounds

There are a number of reasons why people prefer these small dogs to adopt them as family pets. Here are some of the many reasons why people say they love the small dogs that weigh under 25 pounds.

· Most of the dogs with less than 25 pounds in weight do not require a lot of exercise compared to the huge dogs weighing up to 150 pounds. The less exercise requirements makes them ideal pets for professionals with busy schedules and people who don’t have a lot of time to walk their dogs on regular basis.

· Dogs weighing less than 25 pounds are also good since they require less space making them an ideal apartment pet. Most apartments are near urban centers and they have limited space and therefore families living in apartments cannot afford to have huge dogs as pets. The need for such families to have a good family pet that is also kid friendly makes; dogs weighing under 25 pounds a very good choice for a family pet.

· A low maintenance fee is another reason why small dog breeds are preferred to the biggest dogs. The small dogs do not eat too much and therefore the budget of maintaining a dog weighing less than 25 pounds is relatively low.

· Small dogs are affable and auger well with kids and also the elderly. They are therefore very good family pets. They are also called house dogs or a times lap dogs since they can be carried around the house and are often very playful and good for children.
