Drinkwell Pet Fountain for Cats

Updated on September 7, 2013

The Drinkwell Pet Fountain For Cats Who Love Water...

My cat loves water. I don't mean just drinking it, she loves playing in it too. It's the only cat I know who will sit in the shower while it's running!

You can find my cat in the bathroom sink most of the time, day or night, despite several cat water bowls throughout the house for her.

While I'm glad she's getting plenty of water to drink, I worry that she might accidentally drink soap or other chemicals that end up in the sink from the "humans" who also use this sink.

But she loves to watch running water, so keeping her out of the sink would be almost impossible without locking her out of every bathroom in the house.

So when I saw the Drinkwell Pet Fountain for Cats, I knew she had to have one. Did I mention my kitty is spoiled? She's been a part of our family for over 15 years now, so I think she deserves a little spoiling :)

The Drinkwell Pet Fountain for Cats is perfect for my kitty because it means she gets fresh water all the time, she is entertained by the running water, and I know that she's drinking plenty of water which is important for her health.

Make Sure Your Pet Is Always Properly Hydrated

Drinking lots of water is just important for cat health as it is for our health. The Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain provides a constant 5-inch stream of water which not only provides the water your pet needs to stay healthy, but also provides a source of entertainment for her as well. My cat loves watching and drinking running water, so she spends hours watching the water cascade out of the pet fountain each day.

The Drinkwell pet fountain holds more than 50 fluid ounces of water, so your pet always has plenty of fresh water to drink and you don't have to fill it up as frequently as you would with a traditional pet bowl. My cat is super picky when it comes to water, so I was filling up several water bowls every day for her until we got the pet fountain. Now I only have to refill her fountain every few days.

If you have a picky cat or dog who doesn't like to drink stagnate water, they will love a pet fountain. Water bowls tend to attract pet hair, dust, bugs, etc., making the water unpleasant to drink, especially for picky pets. The pet fountain has a charcoal filter which absorbs bad tastes, and the moving water doesn't attract as much debris as traditional water bowls do.

Why Your Cat Should Have a Cat Water Fountain

One of the biggest benefits of using cat water fountains is that they help keep pets off kitchen and bathroom counters, and out of sinks and toilets. While my kitty is too picky to drink out of the toilet, and she's not allowed on any kitchen counters, she's a total bathroom hog. We spent every morning fighting over the bathroom sink... until we got her the drinkwell pet fountain for cats.

As with all things in life, there are pros and cons for the Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain.

- fresh water for your pet at all times

- running water is entertaining for your pet

- you don't have to refill pet fountains as much as you do traditional pet bowls

- it keeps your pet off the counters and out of sinks and the toilet

- the pet fountain encourages pets to drink more water

- cleaning could be easier

- motor will become loud when water runs low

- pet hair can clog the fountain, so you need to keep the intake valve clear of hair and debris (it's a good idea to keep the fountain a distance away from the food bowl to keep stray food from clogging the fountain).

The Drinkwell pet fountain was the perfect solution for our water-loving kitty. Overall we are very happy with the pet fountain. Bosco gets to drink and watch fresh water all day long, and we don't fight over the bathroom nearly as much :)

Drinkwell Aqua Garden

The Drinkwell Aqua Garden

Makes a great addition to your pet's water fountain

The Drinkwell Aqua Garden is a great way to grow a natural treat your cat will love.

The Drinkwell Aqua Garden is a hydroponic cat grass garden designed to operate with the Drinkwell Pet Fountain and the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain with the use of the Aqua Garden adaptor.

Constant water circulation causes the 100-percent organic wheat grass seeds to start to grow almost immediately... you'll have full growth in just a week! As soon as the wheat grass treat begins to grow out of the seed pod, you can feed it to your pet.

This was a great addition to the drinkwell pet fountain as my cat loves to eat grass but she doesn't get to go out very often. It also keeps her out of my other plants, which is a nice bonus :)

Petmate Fresh Flow

The Petmate Fresh Flow Fountain

Cats need plenty of fresh water to stay healthy. A lack of sufficient water can cause cats to be dehydrated or can even lead to kidney stones or kidney disease.

Most cats love running water so a great way to get your kitty to drink more water is to get her a cat fountain with continuously flowing water. Water from a sink or fountain taste much better to cats; the constant movement keeps the water from tasting stale or attracting dust or bugs.

The Petmate Fresh Flow Fountain is an ultra quiet purifying pet fountain that is great for multiple cat households. The fountain provides cool, flowing water your pet will love.

The Petmate Fresh Flow Fountain sends water down a smooth sloping ramp into the bowl, with less splash and bubbles than other pet fountains. It has a capacity of 108 oz. which means less refilling than other pet fountains too.

Depending upon how you have the flow lever adjusted, the water stream can either be silent or a gentle trickle noise. Some cats love to sit by the cat fountain just to watch the water flow or listen to the water circulating.

The water in the Petmate Fresh Flow Fountain runs down a ramp, which may not appeal to your cat if she prefers the sound and splash from a sink faucet, but it is the quietest water fountain available which appeals to many pet owners.

Metal Cat Water Bowl

The Right Cat Water Bowl Can Reduce Kitty Acne

A few years ago my cat developed pink bumps along her chin. A quick phone call and a photo sent to my vet and I learned that she had feline acne also known as chin acne or kitty acne.

I had no idea that cats could develop acne and was surprised to learn that it can be caused by many of the same things that cause human acne, including food allergies and even stress.

However, another common cause of kitty acne is bacteria which can develop on their water and food bowls. Most pet water and food bowls are plastic, which are magnets for dirt and bacteria. You can reduce the bacteria your cat is exposed to by washing her water dish every day.

Or, most vets recommend using only glass or metal bowls for your cat water bowls. There are also ceramic and plastic bacteria resistant bowls available. Even with these bacteria resistant materials, you should wash your pet's water bowl on a regular basis.

We use bacteria resistant plastic cat water bowls in our house and clean them often; our kitty has been acne free ever since.

Automatic Pet Feeders Help with Dieting and Portion Control

If you have a pet with a weight problem or who is on prescription food, you may need to control the size of their meals each day or each feeding. I know my cat is supposed to only get 5/8 cup of food each day (where did the vet come up with THAT number?).

An automatic pet feeder that can be programmed is a great way to make sure that your pet gets the right amount of food each day. And getting the right portions of food each day means a healthier, happier pet.

Whether you are working long days, traveling, or just need to control how much food your cat or dog eats, an automatic cat feeder is a great way to feed your cat the correct amount of food each day without worrying about measuring food each day, or - gasp - forgetting to feed your pet.

We have a Drinkwell fountain and our cats adore it. However, we tried the Drinkwell aqua garden and the cats plashed water everywhere. The running water of the fountain gets cats to drink more and stay better hydrated, in my opinion.

That's funny. My daughter uses a cat fountain. It looks like 2 dishes together with a half round globe. The water runs down the globe and the cat licks it of the globe instead of out of the dish. I gave you 5*
