Just the things for French Bulldogs!

Hope Saidel is co-owner of Golly Gear, a bricks-and-mortar and online shop featuring fun, affordable and practical small dog products

We're frequent kissers of Frogdogs! (French Bulldogs!)

That's my Teddy and he's a 4-year-old snuggly delight!

According to the American Kennel Club "The French Bulldog has the appearance of an active, intelligent, muscular dog of heavy bone, smooth coat, compactly built, and of medium or small structure. Expression alert, curious, and interested...Well behaved, adaptable, and comfortable companions with an affectionate nature and even disposition; generally active, alert, and playful, but not unduly boisterous."

It doesn't mention silly, adorable, bouncing bowling-balls of fun. But they are.

Here at our shop, Golly Gear, we're very, very familiar with the unique needs of Frenchies. It's not always easy to find a harness that fits that broad chest, toys that stand up to that bulldog jaw, or treats that won't pack on the pounds. Co-owner Hope has two Frenchies and is thoroughly addicted. She makes sure we have the best stuff for French Bulldogs. This is a short preview of some of our favorites.

The best we've found for French Bulldogs

We consider these products to be "must haves" for French Bulldogs. We've chosen them for their quality and suitability for the unique needs of this much-loved breed. A full list is available on our page: For Your French Bulldog.

The ComfortFlex Sport harness is our go-to harness for Frenchies (and other powerful, broad-chested small dogs). It's easy to put on, easy to take off, adjusts easily, holds securely, and distributes any pressure from pulling all along the dog's strong chest. One really nice feature is the leash ring on its own loop, up and away from the dog's back.

The Chillybuddy Winter Jacket is a super-warm puffy jacket for your little dog. It's easy to put on - there are hook-and-loop closures at each side of the neck and along the length of the back. There's also an adjustable pinch clasp at the neck. At night, your little one will be easy to see with the reflective stripes. Dax doesn't like wearing clothes and is notorious for scraping her coat off - but she hasn't managed to take her Chillybuddy Winter Jacket off!

Cooling Vest by Hurtta will help keep your Frenchie comfortable, even when active, on a warm day. Many "cool coats" are designed to drape over the dog while it stays still. This Cooling Jacket is designed for active dogs and can be "refreshed" by rinsing in water. Overheating is a danger for all short-faced dogs, but they need to be "out and about." The Cooling Vest is one way to keep your dog active in warm weather.

The Water Rover portable water bottle for dogs has a bowl large enough for a Frenchies' head to fit. We call my Frenchie, Teddy, "The Big Giant Head," and this was the only bottle that fit. Bringing water from home is always a good idea - either on the road or even at the local dog park, You don't know what other dogs have used a community water dish, what they've been digging in, eating, or exposed to.

The Harness Lead is a one-piece solution for dogs who pull, or try to escape from their harnesses. A one-time adjustment will provide a custom fit for your dog, and the innovative design gently tightens around the rib cage of a dog that pulls - not its neck. Unrestricted breathing is essential for a short-face dog and the Harness Lead will not tighten around the dog's throat.

Soft Snap Collar from White Pine Outfitters is the softest, silkiest nylon collar we've ever found - so soft that our collar-hating Frenchies haven't minded wearing theirs.

We use the Water Rover with a bowl that's about 5 inches in diameter - called the "Large" here: http://goo.gl/5X7VTB

@laurenaticenow: A cooling jacket for Frenchies is always a good idea - as you said, most can't take the summer heat. The outer silver fabric of the cooling jacket reflects the sun's rays, rather than absorbing them. The inside has an water-absorbing loose mesh that uses evaporative cooling and can be refreshed with just a rinse in water.

Interesting dog cooling jacket. It reminds me of a solar oven! But my 10 year old frenchie has to stay home in the summer. He can't take the heat... maybe he needs one. It just looks like it bakes them!

My hairdresser had a French Bulldog who has the run of the salon. He loves it as he's spoilt and petted all day.

Wonderful lens! I had watched your You Tube video before I ever found this lens. My frogdog is a 6 year old named Gus. I have owned many different breeds of dogs over the years but think Frenchies are my favorite now.

French Bulldogs seem to have it all going on for them, something to keep them warm in the chilly air and a cooling blanket on those too hot days...and a line of accessories to assure style at every turn!

@anonymous: Aren't Frenchies wonderful? I'm madly in love with mine! As far as Dexter's diet - if you've been feeding him the same stuff for quite a while and all of a sudden he's not tolerating it well - I'd first visit the veterinarian to make sure nothing else is going on. If he's otherwise healthy, I'd certainly consult the vet, or a dog food specialist to see how you may be able to help him out. There is an astonishing amount of information - and opinion - on the internet about pet food. Try to check the credentials of anyone whose advice you are tempted to implement.

Dexter is our first Frenchie, very spunky and king like to other dogs except females and his first bestfriend ever Gus the ABP and of course other Frenchies. Dex likes to drive mommy and Daddy crazy but when he is on his best behavior he is an Angel. I couldn't ask for anything more in a small dog. One question though, I have been feeding hime Hills Science Diet, lately he has been having the runs. Should we change his diet to something else?

My Frenchie Torito is the most independent, snobby, spoiled dog i've even seen. But i can not live withpout him, he is such a character, i love everything he does and has brought a lot of happyness to my life.

We get so many Frenchie Kisses from our frog dogs that I named my Kennel Frenchie Kisses Kennel. They are the most affectionate dogs I have ever had the pleasure to own or be owned by (these little guys have stolen my heart.) I even have one that loves Peaches and will dance to get a bite. She will be our new Dam for next fall. Her name is "Sugar" ( our Brindle puppy) and she is just as sweet as her name implies. Her mate will be "Special Agent Gibbs" ( Our new Fawn/black muzzled puppy.) He is a comic and dances all the time for no purpose at all just because he is happy.

Our Kennel started off with Abigail (a beautiful brindle female) and Buster ( a cream/fawn male) Sugars mom and dad. They are an exception to the breed and were able to breed naturally instead of being artificially inseminated. Even better, Abigail had a natural whelping instead of the expected c-section. This too is the exception to the rule with French Bulldogs. View our website at http://frenchiekisseskennel.com
