My dog Molly was rushed to Emergency Vet this AM. She suffered a stroke, but her prognosis is good, I am going to spend whatever it takes as long as she has a chance at a good quality of life.
If you're able to pay, then by all means that's a good thing! Our pets are precious to us all. It's just so expensive usually! If it comes to major vet bills, I dunno what we'd do. Yet I can't stand the thought of having a pet put to sleep; went through that years ago.
I hope Molly recovers soon! As far as "quality of life"....that's up to you to judge that for your pet.
A few weeks before Christmas I trapped my hamster between the door and the frame by accident. She seemed completely lifeless. I felt horrible. I rushed her to the vets and paid approximately £200 for out of hours care, medication and for her to stay there overnight. (she only cost £8) I couldn't stand to see her suffer. The vet said the next seven days were crucial. I can now safely say, that it was worth it. She is chewing my curtains, running off with the pieces from the chess set when we are playing, and generally being a pain as she always had been. My initial reaction was to put her out of her misery, but the vet said give her a chance. I'm glad I did.
Its like asking how much are we willing to pay for a loved ones health. I don't think we can put a monetary value on that. Personally, it would be however much it would take to bring my loved one home and healthy. Even if it meant extra hours at work or a second job, taking a loan to do so; whatever it would take to do so. What they give us back, just by their love and devotion to us: playfulness and even their being mischievous brings immeasurable love and joy into our lives. In the least, we owe them whatever we can do to make them well.
I am willing to pay as much as I can afford, but I also must admit that a three day hospitalization for my male dog cost me once $1,300 and I quickly found out how expensive a pet can be... that's why I now have pet health insurance
I have already paid thousand for my dog's health issues, but thank god I did, because I love her to death. So, i'm pretty much willing to pay anywhing.
Hope your pet recovers well!
I am so sorry, Molly has our prayers. And I will say one for you. And for the Vet. who is taking care of your baby Molly.
Hugs and Prayers,
Bobbi
Hi Bobbi,
I got to go see Molly, she knew me her tailed wagged and she sniffed me. At this point she cannot standup but her doctor feels her prognosis is good, They have done an MRI and a multitude of tests, We have hoping some results will show what caused her stroke. Thank you so much for your prayers!
Gail
I sincerely hope that Molly is ok, and that she makes a full recovery! If I were in your position, I would be doing the same thing. There is no price too high when it comes to my dog's health. She is a member of the family, and we would give up whatever we needed to in order to pay for her healthcare. Your Molly is in my prayers.
Hi Kristen,
Molly is progressing, we did go to see her today, she cannot stand up yet although she can sit up for short periods of time. She does not seem to be in pain. She knew us and wagged her tail when we spoke to her. Her eyes look expressive and she loved it when I talked to her and stroked her hear and neck. Thank you for your prayers and for you moral support. Its such a stressful time.
Gail
You are still in our prayers--you and Molly. I know how much I love my Sweetie Angel.
Please let us know how Molly is doing.
Bobbi
Look into Care Credit, a line of credit that can be used for vet expenses. I spent $15,000 on my dalmatian, Rosie for emergency cataract and intestinal blockage surgeries. 3 weeks in intensive care. Thank goodness for Veternarian Pet Insurance and Care Credit!
Molly is so Darling. I hope to hear good news tomorrow. Kiss her for Sweetie Angel and I.
Bobbi
We have also spent a lot of money at the vets for the care of our animals. At one time when we had 3 dogs, we carried pet insurance and it definitely paid! Our cat Dusty cost about $1,000 with 3 different illnesses and overnight stays at the vet. It was recommended that we make him an inside cat. Not easy but we accomplished it. On one of our dogs we spent in excess of $3,000 on vet care. They are our "babies." Hopefully they will stay healthy!
Hope that the darling Molly posted by GDiBiase recovers fully. Best wishes!
RIP: MOLLY, My beloved Shih Tzu we love you so much. Today we showed our ultimate love for you by setting you free from the pain and suffering. But our hearts are so saddened.
I am so sorry that this has happen, but you have shown the greatest love of all by letting her go in peace.
My prayers are for the ones left behind.
Bobbi
As long as the dog would pull through and continue to have many years of quality life, I would pay everything I had until I could pay no more...
If I did not have enough to pull my dog through and he was living or would be living in pain without immediate medical treatment, I would sadly pay to put him to sleep...
Hi Shaddie,
We just spent about $4000 on our Shih tzu who had a severe stroke, we were advised to have tests done because the prognosis was good. Only to realize a couple of days later that she was basically paralyzed and in pain she had some really serious issues, and we ended setting her free from her pain.
So I hear you..
Gail
