Harley the Heroic and Sasha the Scaredy Dog!
Meet Harley and Sasha!
I always loved dogs, chihuahuas in particular. I had one as a child, so when the time became right for our family, I decided to search for a chihuahua for my family's new best friend.
Chihuahuas in particular are a complex breed. They can be the size of a lunchbox, but have no problem taking on dogs the size of horses. Or even horses themselves. They are not known for backing down, in fact their small size probably had a hand in their instinctual need to "show them what they've got" attitude. I'm sure if you were as small as they are, you wouldn't want to be pushed around either.
But they are wonderful lapdogs. As the term suggests, they would be satisfied just sitting in your lap watching tv in the peace of your home.
About little ole' me?
I'm just a girl who fell in love with a dog. And then another dog....and maybe soon another dog. :D
Where did you get your pet?
Well i started looking online for a chihuahua, and I came across a website that had puppies. Lots of puppies to choose from. That should have been my first clue that I was purchasing from a mill and not a responsible breeder. Second clue was when Harley came to me sick and bleeding right from the airport. I rushed him to the vet and was told he had a disease common to mills. When I called the "breeder" to tell her she sold me a sick dog, she said that she couldn't keep track of which dogs had gotten sick, and to send the dog back if i wasn't satisfied. Well that wasn't going to happen. So Harley became a permanent member of our family. He is very protective of us, challenges other (much larger dogs), and is always ready to be where the action is. He has a soul of a rottweiler. He is often found sleeping under the covers as chihuahuas prefer to do, being adored by my children and just having a dog-gone good life.
Then, things happened. He got too friendly with a neighbor's chihuahua (DON'T follow my example, spay and neuter!!!) and as a gift, we got Sasha. She is the polar opposite of Harley. She is very frightful, likes to eat away from Harley , and very rarely looks out the window. One of the funnier difference between them is the way they travel. Harley will walk right along side you; Sasha prefers to be carried in a little purse carrier.
If we are walking Sasha, all of a sudden she will stop, spread her legs out in all directions and refuse to move. But we still love her. :D
A Chihuahua can have as many different personalities from other Chi's as they have colors. But they all have a few things in common. They will love you immensely, they can be very fragile (Chihuahuas are better off in a home with older children), they LOVE to be under the covers because they need to keep warm, and they are just so darn cute!!!
What are your favorite things to do with Harley and Sasha?
I love watching them play together and bond. That is one of the best things about Chihuahuas. They are okay with other breeds, but ADORE and prefer their own kind. You will find them running about the house together like a pack of wolves, or lying down right next to each other contentedly.
Your small Chihuahua
will be a heartbeat at your feet, but a lion in your heart.

Please don't buy, adopt!
There are MANY, many dogs out there who were abandoned, abused, and left on their own that need a loving family. Many people think that you can't find purebreeds in shelters. That is completely wrong. I've seen so many chihuahuas wanting and needing a good home. And if they are at a local city shelter, which usually euthanize for space purposes, their time is very limited before they are put down.
The first place I would recommend checking for is PetFinder. You can search by zipcode, breed, sex, animal rescue and more. They even give you a heads up if an animal is ok with children, or if it has special medical needs, which is something the city pound can't tell you more often than not.
There are other rescues that are specifically for chihuahuas, so you can go there and expect to see Chihuahuas ready to love you, instead of, you know....Great Danes or something (I'm just kidding, I love you Great Danes!!!).
Here are a list of a few Chihuahua rescues. Please check them all out, they are all wonderful.
Have fun finding the newest member of your family!
But i still like to hear from people, since chihuahuas can't talk!!!
