How To Make Cat Toys
Before I get started, let me explain how I came up with these. My kids recently found a couple of kittens in our garage. We had seen a couple of feral, (wild,) cats in the area, but had no idea that one of them had kittens. They caught them and brought them in the house.
Being our family has worked with ferals in the past, we knew what needed to be done in order to tame them and get them ready to be adopted into their forever homes.
One of the things was to play with them. Although they would play with each other, it was important for them to learn how to interact with humans. Once they began to get more comfortable with us, we introduced toys.
One of the first things we tried when got more comfortable around us was an empty toilet paper roll. I rolled it back and forth on the floor and within a couple of minutes, one started chasing it and swatting it around. Then she picked it up and started rolling around with it. Success!
If you do this, just be sure that any leftover toilet paper is removed before you use the roll.

Making Cat Toys
A simple crumpled up piece of paper can make for feline amusement. I recommend white printer paper so you avoid them getting any kind of ink into their mouths.
Cats are naturally curious. After all, most likely you've heard the term, "Curiosity killed the cat." Many cats can't resist looking inside bags. Place a paper bag on the floor and let the exploring begin.
Got a plastic bottle cap? That can be quite entertaining. Being I have kids, I happened to have some leftover plastic Easter eggs and those have been a form of entertainment.

Have you ever made homemade cat toys before?
A cardboard box can be a playland for kittens. They can play inside and peak out when curious to see what else is going on. In addition, it also makes a nice hiding place.
Many kittens like to have a special place where they can retreat.More and more pet owners are using laser pointers to play with their pets. That's great if you have one of them at home. However, if you don't, a simple flashlight will do the trick.
Just flash the light around and let your feline chase the light. I have an older cat who goes crazy when I do this. It's so hilarious to watch. He'll even try to climb the wall if I put the light on it.
Now, I know it's a little hard to see, but while taking pictures, this kitten found my daughters comb on the floor and it became an instant toy!

If you would like to do something a bit more complicated, this shows you how to make three different toys. One is a mousy toy, the second a feather toy and lastly a cork toy. All are pretty simple to do.
Dangerous to Cats
As I mentioned earlier, cats love bags and I suggested a paper bag. Be sure you actually use paper and not plastic. A cat or kitten could end up being suffocated if they play with a plastic bag.
You've probably seen kittens playing with yarn and thought how cute this looked. I used to use yarn as well until I found out it's not safe. Some felines like to put the yarn in their mouths and if they do this, this can accidentally ingest some of the yard.
The same holds true for old socks. Some of the threading can come loose and accidentally be swallowed.
