How to preserve sea turtles

Step by step the way to preserve sea turtles

This lens is about the way many people around the world take on several beaches to help sea turtles preservation, since there are many predators of them both on land and sea, including human the rates of survival for this species is very low. So the uninterested effort of people caring for this lovely animals will help them to stand as one of the animal species in the sea.

Step 1

In some tropical beaches like Cancun, someone devoted to preserve sea turtles should be monitoring during the summer nights when mothers leave the sea to spawn.

Step 2

When mother turtle leave her eggs and return to the sea she left a characteristic trace which could helps us to identify where she left the eggs

Step 3

Then you should identify those places where turtles spawn to protect the eggs from being destroyed by tourists and recover them to continue their incubation in a safe place

Step 4

Bring the eggs to a corral where they be protected from accidental damage by tourists or from predators such as seabirds. In this safe place the eggs can continue their incubation

Step 5

Label them with the date on which you put them to incubate in order to wait until 50 to 80 days when they start to hatch

Step 6

After 50-80 days of incubation, the hatchlings begin to emerge from its shell

Discard the shells because now they are useless

Step 8

You must be aware to recover baby turtles in a protected environment!

Step 9

The best way to recolect them is putting in a basket to hide from predators specially seabirds during the day until you release them to the sea at night

Step 10

At night everything is ready to release the little turtles!

Step 11

Finally after all your care, the little turtle are released into the sea! Good luck!

      Oddly enough, I found a Turtle in front of my home one Morning and this was the first time I have ever seen one on the property. It was actually a very cool experience, we both startled each other so it was interesting for us both at the same time!! :D

      Here in Cyprus, two sea turtle species lay their eggs on the beaches and both species are listed as endangered. People actually do a lot here to protect these sea turtles.
